How to Find Screenshots on Mac

This article will tell you how to find screenshots on a Mac. Many of us have been in the position where we take a screenshot and then struggle to find where it went. This can be frustrating, especially if the file name starts with "screenshot," as that can make it difficult to search. Let's learn where to find screenshots on a Mac and how to change a screenshot location on a Mac. Jump To: * How to Find Screenshots on Mac * How to Change Screenshot Location Mac How to Find Screenshots on Mac When you take a screenshot on your Mac, it is automatically saved to your Desktop. You can find them either by navigating to your Desktop screen, or using Finder to open the Desktop folder and see your saved images there. The Finder method usually lists the date and time the screenshot was taken, so if you have many that you need to sort through on your Desktop screen, Finder might be the easier way to do it. Related: How to Take a Screenshot on iPad—4 Ways How to Change Screenshot Location Mac But what if you don't want your screenshots saved to your Desktop? Besides the fact that it adds clutter to your screen, you might prefer to choose to save your screenshots elsewhere so they're easier to sort. How to Turn Off Netflix Subtitles & Closed Captions

This article will tell you how to turn off subtitles on Netflix. Subtitles and closed captions can be helpful on Netflix, whether you're watching a show in a foreign language or need and/or prefer closed captions. However, depending on who you are watching with, group or individual preferences might change, and some may find subtitles or closed captions distracting. Let's learn how to remove subtitles from Netflix. How to Turn Off Subtitles on Netflix If you're looking for how to remove subtitles on Netflix, the good news is, it's fairly intuitive and easy. This also includes how to turn off closed captions on Netflix, because the two can be done from the same menu. Closed captioning is when the dialog from a movie or TV show is displayed on the screen in the language of the program, while subtitles tend to be translations of the language being spoken. Both are very helpful tools, but many do not want them on all the time. Maybe you were watching something without sound before and the closed captions were helpful, but now you have sound again and find the captions distracting, or maybe you're ready to try to understand the language of the show without subtitles. Either way, here is how to turn off Netflix subtitles. * Open Netflix either in a web browser, the app, or on your Smart TV. * Select the movie or show you want to watch and bring up the menu at the bottom of the screen by tapping, or using your Smart Remote or cursor. * Select Audio & Subtitles. The icon looks like a speech bubble. * Under Subtitles, select Off. And there you go! If you change your mind, follow these steps again and choose the subtitles or closed captions you want. Not every movie or show will have subtitle options, but most will have closed captions. AirPods Mic Not Working? Try These 6 Tips

Microphone on AirPods not working? This can be very frustrating since so many of us use our AirPods to conduct business and talk with friends and family. However, there are many ways you can try to fix the problem before deciding the situation is hopeless. In this article, we'll go over how to fix AirPods' microphone. Related: 13 Ways to Save Battery on Your iPhone Jump To: * Charge AirPods * Reconnect AirPods to Your Device * Clean Your AirPods' Microphone * Restart Your Apple Device * AirPods Microphone Settings * Reset and Reconnect Your AirPods 1. Charge AirPods Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest: your AirPods mic not working may just be a consequence of the AirPods not being charged. Before you do anything else, open up your AirPods case while holding it close to your iPhone and check the charge. If the battery level is low, it may interrupt the microphone's functioning. Try charging your AirPods to see if that solves your microphone issues. To learn about more ways to use your AirPods, consider signing up for our Tip of the Day newsletter. 2. Reconnect AirPods to Your Device Another quick and easy fix for the AirPods microphone not working is to reconnect your AirPods to your device. To do this, simply pop your AirPods back in their case, then take them back out and put them in your ears. This will reconnect your AirPods to your device. Try again to use your microphone, and see if the issue has resolved itself. 3. Clean Your AirPods' Microphone Before moving onto more involved fixes, check to see if your AirPods' microphone looks clogged or dirty. You can find the microphones at the end of the AirPods' stems. If they appear dirty, you can quickly clean them out by following these instructions for how to clean your AirPods safely. Once you've cleaned the microphone holes, you can wipe away any remaining grime. Again, be very careful when doing this and avoid pressing into the microphone holes with a sharp implement. Once you've finished cleaning your AirPods, reconnect and try the microphone out again. 4. Restart Your Apple Device Our old friend—turning it off and back on again—returns. Sometimes, simply restarting the device you're trying to connect your AirPods to can fix issues you're experiencing with your AirPods microphone. 5. AirPods Microphone Settings If you are having trouble with the microphone on only one AirPod (for instance, the microphone on your left AirPod works fine, but you can't use the mic on your right AirPod), the problem may be found in the AirPods' settings. Before you begin the steps below, put your AirPods in your ears and make sure they've connected to your iPhone. * Open Settings.   * Tap Bluetooth.   * Under My Devices, find your AirPods and tap the info icon.   * Tap Microphone.   * Make sure Automatically Switch AirPods is selected. Now try using your AirPod mic again and see if the issue is resolved. 6. Reset & Reconnect Your AirPods One last thing to try before throwing the towel in is to reset your AirPods before reconnecting them to a device. * Put your AirPods in their charging case, close the lid, and leave them there for 30 seconds. * Open the charging case, but leave your AirPods inside. * On your iPhone, go to Settings and tap Bluetooth.   * Tap the info icon next to AirPods.   * Tap Forget This Device.   * Confirm Forget Device.   * Confirm Forget Device again.   * Keeping the lid of your AirPods' charging case open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case until the status light flashes amber, then white. * With the lid open, hold your charging case near your iPhone. * A "Not Your AirPods" notification should pop up on your screen. Tap Connect.   * Follow the instructions on-screen. * When your AirPods are reconnected to your iPhone, tap Done. Now you can try your microphone again. Repair or Replace Your AirPods Unfortunately, if none of these tips have worked, you may need to consider repairing or replacing your AirPods. While AirPods can be pretty resilient, they're still delicate pieces of technology. Wear and tear, like dropping them, can eventually take a toll. Consider contacting Apple Support or bringing your AirPods in for service. Change Apple Maps Voice Volume or Turn It Off

The Loud Volume setting in Apple Maps often startles me as I’m driving. Because of this, I tend to select the Low Volume setting as my default. However, if you have kids in the car, like loud music, or struggle to hear the lower volume, adjusting this setting can be important. Whatever your situation, choosing an appropriate volume setting can help you avoid having to look at your phone screen so you can better focus on the road ahead. Here’s how to change the default volume setting for the Apple Maps app: Related: 5 Handy Apple Maps Tips for Easy Travel Jump To: * Change Apple Maps Voice Volume in Settings * Change Apple Maps Voice Volume in the App Change Apple Maps Voice Volume in Settings * Open the Settings app and select Maps.   * Tap Navigation & Guidance.   * To turn off the spoken directions, select No Voice. To turn the voice on, select your preferred navigation prompt volume.   * For the Normal Volume and Loud Volume settings, you can also enable or disable the Pause Spoken Audio toggle. Whenever I do use the Normal Volume and Loud Volume Settings, I like to enable the Pause Spoken Audio toggle. This will not stop your music, only lower its volume. But with this setting, podcasts and audiobooks will be automatically paused during navigation prompts. This way, I can hear my navigation prompts more clearly and can avoid missing key thoughts in my audio. To learn about more ways you can use the Apple Maps app, check out our Tip of the Day newsletter. Change Apple Maps Voice Volume in the App If you’ve set a destination and started turn-by-turn directions, you can also change the volume in the Apple Maps app. Here's how: * Swipe up on the gray route card.   * Tap Audio.   * Set your preferred volume for the guidance voice.   How-ToAppsMapsMaster your iPhone in one minute a day: Sign up here to get our FREE Tip of the Day delivered right to your inbox.

Why Won't My iPhone Send Pictures? Every Solution

Is your iPhone not sending pictures? Photo sending should be quick and easy, especially when you want to send something important or sentimental. There are many reasons why your iPhone won't send pictures, but if you don't know where to look, the fix can feel impossible. Here are all the reasons why your iPhone won't send pictures, and how to solve them. Jump To: * Send It to Another Person * Make Sure Both of You Have iMessage Turned On * Check Your Internet Connection * Turn MMS Messaging On * Make Sure Cellular Data is Turned On * Reset Network Settings * Check for iOS and Carrier Updates * Turn Your Phone Off & On Why Won't My Phone Send Pictures? All you want to do is send a photo (or many) to a contact or a group chat, and for some reason it's just not sending. Is it your fault, or theirs? Will this be resolved quickly, or are there extensive steps involved? Here are all the answers to the question "Why won't my iPhone send pictures?" and how to fix each of them. Here is what to do: 1. Send It to Another Person The first thing to do when asking "Why are my pictures not sending?" is establish whether the problem is on your end or the recipient's. If you're unable to send photos in a group chat, it's likely a problem on your end, but issues like the other person not having iMessage on (which we will cover below) or the recipient not having enough storage space can affect their ability to receive photos. Also, if they are in an area with low service, the photos might just not be coming through. So the first thing to do is send the photo (or another one) to a different person, preferably in a different physical location, to see if they receive it. If they do, the problem is on the original intended recipient's end. 2. Make Sure Both of You Have iMessage Turned On If you are sending to another iPhone, check to make sure both you and the recipient have iMessage turned on. iMessage is the easiest way to send messages between iPhones, but if the other person has it turned off, they will not receive the message. If you're only able to not send a photo to this person, let them know and have them make sure iMessage is on. 3. Check Your Internet Connection If you're sending an iMessage, your iPhone will want to use an internet connection if it's available. However, if your internet connection is weak or unstable, you may run into trouble doing things like sending pictures. If you are connected to the internet but the signal is weak (you can check the strength by how many bars show up in the internet symbol on the top right of your screen, next to your bars of cell signal), you might want to try turning off your internet and using cellular data instead.  4. Turn MMS Messaging On If iMessage is unavailable for the recipient, such as if they have an Android phone instead of an iPhone, your iPhone will try to send the message as an MMS, which is similar to an iMessage but goes through your cell provider instead of the internet, so you'll need to be on a device that has cell service. If this is off, it may be blocking you from sending pictures and other media to someone who is not using iMessage. To make sure MMS is on: * Open Settings and select Messages. * Make sure MMS Messaging is toggled on. 5. Make Sure Cellular Data Is Turned On Whether you're trying to send an MMS or an iMessage when you don't have internet connection, you'll need to use your cellular network. To do this: * Open Settings and select Cellular. * Make sure Cellular Data is toggled on. 6. Reset Network Settings Glitches can happen for a myriad of reasons, and many of them can be solved just by resetting. A good general reset is of your Network Settings, which is easy to do and won't mess anything up, though you will have to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords, so make sure you know or write down all your saved Wi-Fi passwords before you do this. So, if you're running into unexplained issues with sending photos, resetting your network settings might just take care of it. 7. Check for iOS & Carrier Updates Your iPhone or your carrier might be offering an update that will fix your "Why is my iPhone not sending pictures?" bug. Regardless, it's good to update both regularly anyway, so here's how to update iOS and how to update your carrier settings. 8. Turn Your Phone Off & On Finally, a good old fashioned iPhone reset might do the trick. Sometimes a message gets stuck somewhere on your iPhone after you hit send but before it's released into the universe, and turning your iPhone off and on will give it the kick in the pants to get moving. If you try all of this and none of it works, it might be time to call your carrier and/or visit the Genius Bar. Good luck! iPhoneMessagesPhotosTroubleshootingPhoto & VideoMaster your iPhone in one minute a day: Sign up here to get our FREE Tip of the Day delivered right to your inbox.

iPhone Texting Tricks for the Messages App

Think you know the Messages app? It's probably the app you use the most, but there may still be some iPhone texting tricks you don't know about. In this article, we'll go over some helpful tips and tricks for the Messages app. Jump To: * Pin Your Favorite Message Threads * Get Someone’s Attention in a Group Text by Tagging * Filter Messages from Unknown Numbers * Customize Group Message Threads with a Cover Photo * Organize Your Conversations with Inline Replies Related: How to Retrieve Deleted Text Messages on Your iPhone Pin Your Favorite Message Threads Even though I text my family chat every day, it can still get bumped down on my list of messages by other texts. Starting with iOS 14, you can pin your favorite conversations to the top of your message list to keep it visible. All you have to do is long press on the conversation of your choice, whether it’s a group message or a one-on-one chat, and tap Pin from the menu that comes up. You can pin many conversations, so if you have a few text chains you want easy access to, you’re in luck! If you want to unpin, just long press on the pinned message, then tap Unpin. Get Someone’s Attention in a Group Text by Tagging Speaking of group texts, one common frustration is when you send a message you want a specific person to see, but it gets lost in the general messages. Now you can tag a contact in a group chat, and they will be notified that they have been mentioned. Just press the @ symbol on your keyboard followed by the name of the person you want to tag. Do not add a space after the @ symbol, and type in the person’s name as it’s saved in your phone. You’ll know it worked when you hit space after the name and it turns blue. This only works if the person you are tagging also has an iPhone running iOS 14 or later, though. For more ways you can use tagging on your iPhone, check out our Tip of the Day newsletter. Filter Messages from Unknown Numbers While I like being able to see messages from unknown numbers, I don’t enjoy fake texts telling me I have a UPS delivery clogging up my messages list. Fortunately, iOS 14 allows you to filter your texts so you can separate your texts from known and unknown contacts. To do this, simply go to Settings, tap Messages, then toggle Filter Unknown Senders on. In your main message screen, you’ll now see Filters at the top. Tap that to select whether you want to look at All Messages, Known Senders, or Unknown Senders. Known Senders includes text threads with your saved contacts and numbers you have replied to. Customize Group Message Threads with a Cover Photo While we’ve been able to add photos to individual contacts and their text chains for some time, we can now add photos to group chats, keeping them easily identified and lots of fun. Just tap the chat name on top, tap the information icon, then tap Change Name and Photo. You can select an image from your photo collection or use one of the icons Apple suggests. Once it’s set, it will appear at the top of your message thread when it’s open, and next to the message thread on your main message screen. This only works if every person is using an iPhone, though, so your Android-using friends are out of luck. Organize Your Conversations with Inline Replies Have you ever opened up a chat and found texts on several topics at the same time? It can be hard to clarify which subject you’re replying to. Now you can use inline replies to create a thread within your group texts. Just press and hold the message to which you want to reply directly, and hit Reply. This will start a thread for that topic, which will take up the screen, blocking out the rest of the message thread. To exit this, just press a blank part of your display. To open it up again, just tap below the message where it lists the number of replies in that thread. Share ETA When You Get Walking or Cycling Directions in Apple Maps

In iOS 14.5, you can now send your estimated time of arrival (ETA) to your contacts when you plan your walking or cycling or route in Apple Maps. Whether you want to let your friends know when to expect you, or you just want to make sure someone knows where you’ll be, this new feature helps you coordinate with others. Related: How to Share Google Maps Directions & Apple Maps Directions on Your iPhone * Open Apple Maps.   * Search the location you’d like to walk or cycle to.   * Tap Directions.   * Tap the walking icon or the cycling icon.
