How to Fix iPhone Saying You Have Unread Messages

Whenever your iPhone is saying you have unread messages but you’re sure you’ve read them all, you might have actually missed an old text that remains unread. When this happens, there is a pretty easy way to find the message. First, you need to have Filter Unknown Senders enabled. Once that is done, simply head over to the Messages app.

* Open the Messages app, and tap Filters in the top right corner. This button only appears when you enable Filter Unknown Senders.

* Tap Unread Messages.

* Any texts that you have not opened will appear here. If there is an older text that you haven’t read yet, you can tap on it here to mark it as read.

This trick should help you easily solve why your iPhone is showing unread messages. For more hidden iPhone tips and advice, be sure to sign up for our free Tip of the Day newsletter. However, if you did not see any unread messages after trying the above steps, there is another trick that could help you locate the mysterious unread message.

How to Use Siri to Mark iMessages as Read

If you’re still unable to locate your missing unread message, Siri can always help. Simply tell Siri, “Read my unread messages.” Siri will then read aloud any texts that you have not opened yet. This should resolve your iPhone showing unread messages when there aren’t any.

If not, try restarting or rebooting your iPhone and trying the solutions in this article again. Lastly, if all else fails, try reaching out to Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store for further assistance. Next, find out how to see unsent messages on iPhone.

FAQ

Here's What to Do If an iPhone Group Text Isn't Working

What to Know

* If you can't send group messages on iPhone, make sure Send as SMS and MMS Messaging are toggled on in Messages settings.

* If you can't receive group texts, try resetting your network settings in your iPhone's General Settings.

Not receiving group texts on your iPhone? Or maybe you can't send group messages? Sometimes, an iOS update can be the cause. Other times, this problem crops up randomly. Here's how to fix it if you can't send or are not receiving group texts on your iPhone.

* Reset Network Settings

* Delete Group Message & Restart It

* FAQ

Easy Ways to Fix iPhone Group Messaging Problems

If group messages on your iPhone or iPad are not working, whether your iPhone is not getting group texts or can't send them, there are a few things that you should try before moving on to more involved troubleshooting. First, make sure to enable group messaging. Next, check for an Apple service outage. If you see a green dot next to iMessage, then the problem isn't on Apple's end.

You should also make sure iOS or iPadOS are updated on your device. If your software has already been updated, force restart your iPhone or iPad. You can also close the Messages app and reopen it to see if the problem resolves itself. There are also a few general steps to take when iMessage is not working that may help if group texting on your iPhone isn't working.

If group texting is still not working, read on for more ways to fix iPad and iPhone group messaging issues.

Check Your iPad or iPhone Storage

Your iPhone group messaging may not be working because your device doesn't have enough storage available. Check your iPad or iPhone storage and make sure you aren't about to run out. Optimize storage and clear space on your device if necessary.

Reset Network Settings

Sometimes network issues are the cause when group messaging isn't working on your iPhone. You may be able to fix group texts on your iPhone by resetting network settings. This step often gets rid of problems and glitches when nothing else will. Keep in mind that you will need to rejoin all Wi-Fi networks and re-pair all Bluetooth devices.

Delete Group Message & Restart It

If your iMessage group chat is not working still, I'm sorry to say you may need to delete the group text, then start a new group message with the same members. You can print the text messages or save them as screenshots if you want to preserve the texts.

To delete a group text on your iPhone:

* Open the Messages app.

* Swipe left across the group message you want to delete.

* Tap the Trash can icon.

Is your iPad or iPhone group text not working still? Please contact Apple Support to see if this is a known bug or glitch, and if there are any other possible ways to fix the problem. For more great Messages app tutorials, subscribe to our free Tip of the Day.

FAQ

* I keep getting a "Messages in iCloud not available" error message; how can I fix it? If you get this iCloud error message, make sure all your Apple devices are signed in with the same Apple ID. We have a few more ways to fix "Messages in iCloud not available" errors if that didn't help.

* Why is iMessage not working on my iPhone? If iMessage isn't working, check if Apple has an outage, or if you need to update iOS on your iPhone. For more troubleshooting steps, read this tutorial on how to fix iMessage.

* Can you show me how to leave a group text on my iPhone or iPad? Yes. We can show you how to leave a group text, but keep in mind this is only possible if the group message has four or more participants, and all members are using iPhones.

How to Fix Group Message Sending as Individual Texts on iPhone

What to Know

* Force restarting your iPhone is the first step to take when group texts on iPhone are coming in separately.

* If group messages are sending individually after rebooting your iPhone, make sure MMS Messages is toggled on in Settings.

"Why are my group messages coming in separately on my iPhone?" is a question I get a lot. Sometimes group texts send as individual texts because not everyone in the group message is using an Apple device. We can't fix that for you, but we do have several ways iPhone users can fix it when a group message replies individually.

Easy Ways to Fix It When Group Message Replies Individually on iPhone

When an iPhone group text is not working, there are a few easy fixes to try. First, check the Apple System Status page and make sure there's a green dot by iMessage. If iMessage is working on Apple's end, update iOS. If your iPhone is already updated, force restart it. Tell all the members of the group message to update or force restart their phones, as well. If group texts are coming back as individual texts still, read on for more solutions.

Note: You can send the same message to multiple contacts separately on your iPhone if you want to.

Check Group Messaging Settings on iPhone

Group messaging settings changed with iOS 17, so if you've followed my earlier advice to make sure your iOS is up to date, you won't need to make sure Group Messaging is toggled on. If you have an older device that can't be updated to iOS 17, though, you'll need to follow slightly different steps:

* Open the Settings app.

* Tap Messages.

* For earlier than iOS 17, make sure MMS Messaging and Group Messaging are toggled on.

* For iOS 17 and later, make sure MMS Messaging is toggled on.

Remember to pass this along to the others in the group chat, so they can make sure their Messages settings are correct, too!

By now, your group messages on iPhone should be sending all together, rather than coming in separately. If not, check in with Apple Support to see if there's another fix! Be sure to check out our free Tip of the Day for more great group message tutorials!

FAQ

* How do I add a number to a group text on my iPhone? To add a number to a group text tap the group info at the top of the page, tap the number of people, tap Add Contact, and then add the additional person. Keep in mind you can only add a person to a group chat if all members are iPhone users.

* What do I do if I get an "iMessage not sent" notification? If iMessage is not working you may need to change certain settings, update iOS, and make sure MMS Messaging and Send as SMS are enabled.

* What does the iMessage waiting for activation error mean? An iMessage waiting for activation error may mean that your iPhone's date and time settings are wrong, or you need to reset Messages, FaceTime, and your Apple ID.

How to Turn Up Your Apple Watch Brightness—Two Easy Ways!

What to Know

* There are two main ways to adjust the brightness of your Apple Watch screen.

* You can press the digital crown on your Apple Watch to open the Settings app, then select Display & Brightness.

* You can also adjust the Apple Watch brightness from the Watch app on a paired iPhone.

So, why is your Apple Watch face dark? If your Apple Watch display is dim, the screen brightness may be turned down in your Apple Watch settings. There's two ways you can adjust the screen brightness of your Apple Watch: through the Watch app on your paired iPhone, or you can make the change directly in your Apple Watch. Here's how to turn the brightness up on an Apple Watch using both methods.

How to Turn Brightness Up on Apple Watch

Be sure to check out our free Tip of the Day for more great Apple Watch tutorials! Now, here's how to brighten your Apple Watch screen with just a few taps:

* Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch.

Image courtesy of Apple

* Tap the Settings app.

* Tap Display & Brightness.

* Tap the brightness icon on the right of the brightness control bar to increase the brightness of your Apple Watch screen. You can also tap the slider, then turn the Digital Crown clockwise to turn up the brightness.

* Tap the brightness icon or turn the Digital Crown until you see all three sections of the brightness bar lit up green; this means your Apple Watch screen is as bright as it can be.

* You can also turn the Digital Crown counterclockwise or tap the brightness icon to the left of the brightness slider to dim your Apple Watch screen.

How to Turn Up Apple Watch Brightness on iPhone

Alternatively, you can turn up the brightness on your Apple Watch from your paired iPhone. Here's how to access your Watch settings from your iPhone to adjust the brightness of your Apple Watch screen:

* Open the Watch app on the iPhone paired to your Apple Watch.

* Tap the My Watch tab at the bottom of the screen, then tap Display & Brightness.

* Touch and slide the white dot in the brightness bar to the right to increase Apple Watch brightness, and to the left to decrease brightness. Sliding the dot all the way to the right will increase your Apple Watch brightness to maximum.

Now you know how to change the brightness of an Apple Watch, and you can make your Apple Watch screen brighter or dimmer whenever you need to.

FAQ

* How do I turn off the Always On display on my Apple Watch? To turn off the Always On display, press the Digital Crown, tap Settings, then Display & Brightness, and then Always On. You can tap Always On to turn the feature off or on.

* Does the Apple Watch have a flashlight? Yes! With watchOS 10 and later, Apple Watches have a flashlight, or a flashing white light that's useful for things like night walks and bike rides.

* What are things you can do with an Apple Watch? We have an article about Apple Watch tricks that include quickly silencing incoming calls, locating your lost iPhone, remotely controlling your iPhone, and much more!

Everything Apple Announced at Its ‘Let Loose’ iPad Event

Apple's May 7 "Let Loose" event was quite literally all about the iPad, offering the first upgrades to the tablet lineup since 2022. The event debuted a new iPad Air and iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil Pro with expanded functionality, and a redesigned Magic Keyboard. The new iPad Air and iPad Pro offer greater AI capabilities, and some newly updated apps are already making use of the AI upgrades. Let's take a look at the new devices and accessories, the upgraded features, and when they'll be available!

iPad Air (6th Generation)

Pricing

* Starts at $599 for the 11-inch iPad Air

* Starts at $799 for the 13-inch iPad Air

Availability

* Pre-order starting May 7,  arriving in stores and on doorsteps May 15th.

The 13-inch tablet used to be reserved only for Pro users, but Apple has expanded the iPad Air screen real estate, which now comes in two sizes: an 11-inch and 13-inch screen (for comparison, a 13-inch screen is the same size as most laptops.) This iPad Air has a landscape front-facing camera, a welcome change for those who often used their tablets for landscape video calls and found their camera angle was awkwardly off to the side. Both models support faster Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity than the previous iPad Air generation, and have the same advanced screen display features, like the Liquid Retina design, creating a display with high brightness, super-clear resolution, and rich color.

However, the biggest change to this tablet is that it now has the M2 Apple Silicon chip, allowing for 50% faster performance over the previous iPad Air, while using less power. Both iPad Air models have double the starting storage space the existing generation did, starting at 128GB for the same price as the previous models. For those who require more storage space, you can also upgrade to the 500GB and 1TB storage options. The new iPad Air is available in space gray, starlight, purple, and blue.

iPad Pro (7th Generation)

Pricing

* Starts at $999 for the 11-inch iPad Pro (M4)

* Starts at $1,299 for the 13-inch iPad Pro (M4)

Availability

* Pre-order starting May 7,  arriving in stores and on doorsteps May 15th.

Now thinner and lighter than ever, the new iPad Pro debuted with the brand-new M4 chip (the most advanced Apple silicon chip currently available in any Apple product). The M4 chip offers faster and more powerful performance than the previous iPad Pro M2 chip, using just half the power. The difference is significant—the Neural Engine in the M4 chip is 60x faster than Apple's first Neural Engine in the A11 Bionic chip. This makes it a powerful device that can easily support more AI-enabled features and workflows requiring heavy processing. At the same time, Apple made some notable upgrades to the Pro display, which is now the most advanced screen display available in any Apple device. The Ultra Retina XDR display features new tandem OLED technology, meaning that it uses two layers of OLED screens to make the display brighter, with more brilliant colors, deeper true blacks, and more ability to capture detail in motion. The new Pro models also feature nano-texture glass, which disperses ambient light while maintaining high screen resolution. This way, you have less glare from your tablet screen while working outdoors or in well-lit environments (an upgrade I deeply appreciate, since I often struggle with glare when working outside on my tablet).

The new Pro models support faster Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, and the quality of the camera has also been improved, with better colors, improved textures, and greater low-light detail. If you often use your iPad Pro for document scanning, you'll be intrigued by Apple's new AI feature in the Camera app: now, when you scan a document with a shadow on the page, the camera instantly takes multiple photos with the new adaptive flash and stitches the images together for a better document scan, sans the shadow. Pretty cool! The new Pro models are available in silver and space black and are offered in two sizes: an 11-inch and 13-inch screen.

Sound interesting? You can check out our deep dive into the new iPad Pro models to see if it's time for you to upgrade.

Magic Keyboard

Pricing

* $299 for the new 11-inch iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (M4)

* $349 for the new 13-inch iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (M4)

Availability

* Pre-order starting May 7,  arriving in stores and on doorsteps May 15th.

Apple also offered some practical updates to its Magic Keyboard for the new iPad Pro and iPad Air: the redesigned keyboard is thinner and lighter (excellent news for iPad owners who value the portability of the tablet). It also now includes a function row allowing you to adjust settings like screen brightness right from the keyboard, so you don't have to open the Control Center or Settings app. For those who were occasionally annoyed by the slightly clunky touchpad, you'll be pleased to learn that the new touchpad on the Magic Keyboard is larger and more responsive for easier navigation, and has haptic feedback, making it similar to the touchpad on your MacBook. This new keyboard is available in both black and white color options for the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro (M4) and iPad Air (M2) models.

Apple Pencil Pro

Pricing

* $129; compatible with the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (M4)

Availability

* Pre-order starting May 7,  arriving in stores and on doorsteps May 15th.

If you're a fan of the Apple Pencil, you'll likely be pretty excited by the new Apple Pencil Pro. Apple added a new sensor in the barrel of the pencil, so that when you squeeze the pencil, you can open a tool palette to adjust settings like colors or line weights without having to navigate back and forth to a toolbar bar on a different portion of your screen. They've also added a custom haptic engine that provides feedback to help you know when you squeeze or snap to a Smart Shape, which helps your drawing and illustration process feel more intuitive. The Apple Pencil Pro will also feel more like your pen-and-paper drawing tools with the upgraded barrel roll functionality. Now, when you tilt the Apple Pencil, the orientation and line thickness will shift, just like it would while sketching on paper. They've also added Apple Pencil hover, which allows you to hold the Apple Pencil above your screen to preview the orientation and thickness of a tool before you even make a mark on your screen. (Less time spent erasing is always a good thing!) You won't even have to worry about losing this upgraded Apple Pencil Pro, since Apple has finally added Find My support to the Apple Pencil, meaning you can track the Apple Pencil Pro through the Find My app if you misplace it.

iPadOS & App Updates

With the September 2023 iPadOS 17 updates, you have new features, such as more Lock Screen customization options, interactive widgets, and AutoFill, which identifies blank fields in forms and fills them in. For more iPadOS updates, we'll have to wait for WWDC, when Apple will debut iPadOS 18. However, some new graphics, video, and audio features were debuted for the Logic Pro apps and Final Cut Pro apps for iPad in the Apple 'Let Loose' event.

Logic Pro for iPad 2: Powerful New AI-Driven Features

Pricing: $4.99/month or $49/year

Availability: New users can purchase on the App Store now; free updates for existing users will be available starting May 13.

The new-and-improved Logic Pro app leverages AI for some cool new capabilities. Apple added Session Players, which is essentially a virtual band member powered by AI. This is an expansion of the previous Drummer feature and now also includes a Bass Player and Keyboard Player. You can add these to your music, while easily customizing parameters like slides and dead notes for audio. There's also a new Stem Splitter feature that allows you to recover moments from your favorite recordings and even separate mixed audio recordings into their distinct parts (such as drum, bass, and vocal) for easier song remixing. An added Chromaglow feature helps you hit the perfect tone with different saturation styles (like nostalgic vintage warmth or modern clean sounds). Essentially, the new app is faster and allows for much greater creative control over your audio production through the expanded editing options.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2: Multi-Angle Recording & Faster Editing

Pricing: $4.99/month or $49/year

Availability: Available for purchase now; updates for existing users will be available for free later in the spring.

Perhaps the coolest new Final Cut feature is the addition of Live Multicam, which works with the new Final Cut Camera app. With Live Multicam, you can set up multiple devices to record up to four different angles of a shot and view them as they record live from the same Final Cut Pro screen. This gives you a director's view of the shot, and you can even adjust the exposure and zoom of each video feed individually from the combined view. You don't have to be a director to think this is pretty cool—I'd love to try a setup with my iPhone and iPad to test out some cool action shots, like at a local climbing gym. If you often work on larger video-editing projects, you'll be pleased to learn that the new Final Cut Pro leverages the new iPad Pro M4 chip, allowing you to edit video files directly from an external storage device. This means you can quickly make edits without importing, and the project files won't take up space on your iPad.

Final Thoughts

The new iPad Air, starting at $599, is the obvious purchasing choice for most tablet users: it has the speed and processing power of the Apple M2 silicon chip, a high-quality screen, and fast connectivity, while still being cost-effective. However, if you frequently do detailed graphics design work, high-resolution video editing, or game-playing requiring super-fast processing power, it's worth considering the more expensive price for the new iPad Pro models. You'll likely find the display and processing power upgrades to be well worth the extra money.

As for the accessories, I'm already planning to purchase the new Apple Pencil Pro! While I found the improvements to the Magic Keyboard to be pretty incremental (I suppose it is just a keyboard, after all), the improvements to the Apple Pencil Pro make it seem much more intuitive to use and more like using a physical sketch pad and paper, while continuing to offer the no-mess convenience and cool effects you can achieve through digital mediums. Enough said!

Apple TV VPN: Everything You Need to Know

What to Know

* There are many Apple TV VPN options, and every option has pros and cons.

* To get the VPN on your Apple TV, all you need to do is download the app on your Apple TV or set it up on your Wi-Fi router.

When it comes to getting a VPN for Apple TV, there are many factors to consider, such as cost, compatibility with your favorite streaming services, and the location and number of VPN servers in your area. We’ll give you a list of popular VPN Apple TV options and teach you how to set them up on your device.

How to Pick the Right Apple TV VPN

The main reason you would want a VPN for your Apple TV is either for extra privacy or to watch shows that are not available in your region/country. So, it is important to consider if the country you want to watch shows in has VPN servers there and if it's compatible with your streaming platforms. The best Apple TV VPN for you will be affordable and have a compatible app for Apple TV or the ability to set it up directly on your home router.

The five most popular VPNs to use with Apple TV are NordVPN, Surfshark, IPVanish, and ExpressVPN. Below, you can find some information about each one. All of these are paid, and while there are free VPNs, they are usually very limited and often have ads to make a profit. If you are considering a VPN, I recommend trying one of the four below, especially since they all offer money-back guarantees if they don't live up to your expectations.

NordVPN for Apple TV (Starting at $3.09/Month)

NordVPN is widely known as one of the best and fastest VPNs, with servers in 111 countries, and it is Apple TV-compatible. NordVPN offers different security packages, ranging from $3.09/month for the Basic plan as long as you pay for two years upfront up to $15.99/month for the Ultimate plan if you want to pay month-by-month. All plans let you use NordVPN on up to 10 devices but with access to only six simultaneous connections and have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The Basic plan only covers a secure, high-speed VPN, while the Plus plan has additional malware protection, tracker and ad blocker, cross-platform password manager, and data Breach Scanner. Then there's the Ultimate plan, which has an additional 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage and two cyber protection benefits: identity theft recovery of $1 million in coverage and cyber extortion protection of $100,000 in coverage.

Surfshark Apple TV VPN (Starting at $2.29/Month)

Surfshark is similar to NordVPN but is slightly cheaper and has different features. Just like with NordVPN, there are three plans, Surfshark Starter, Surfshark One, and Surfshark One+, that can be paid for monthly, annually, or every two years (cheapest). The Shurfshark One+ plan offers everything from a secure VPN to an ad blocker, cookie pop-up blocker, personal detail generator, masked email generator, and real-time email, credit card, and ID breach alerts.

Other Surfshark VPN features include personal data security reports, a private search engine, 24/7 antivirus protection, webcam protection, and antivirus, anti-spyware, and malware protection. Finally, Surfshark One+ can also remove your data from company databases and from people's search sites. Of course, it is Apple TV compatible and has servers in 100 countries.

IPVanish VPN for Apple TV (Starting at $2.99/Month)

IPVanish VPN has servers in over 90 countries and has just one plan that you can pay for monthly, annually, or every two years, and all options let you connect to an unlimited number of devices in your household. This VPN also offers 24/7 live chat and phone support in case you have any questions or something isn't working as it should. IPVanish offers both a VPN and a proxy server so that you can enjoy extra privacy.

ExpressVPN Apple TV (Starting at $6.67/Month)

ExpressVPN is one of the pricier VPN options out there, and it is popular due to its flexibility and compatibility. It works on every platform, gaming console, and router. It has servers in 105 countries, offers 24/7 live chat support with real humans, can be used on up to eight devices at a time, and lets you do VPN split tunneling. VPN split tunneling means that some traffic is routed through the VPN while other traffic accesses the internet normally. This is really useful if you want to use the same device to browse the internet normally while simultaneously streaming a movie in another country. For more Apple TV tips, check out our free Tip of the Day newsletter.

How to Set Up VPN on Apple TV

The exact steps of setting up a VPN on your Apple TV depend on the VPN you pick, but they are generally very similar. First, you have to sign up and either pay for the VPN or start your free trial, which requires setting up your VPN account. Once that is done:

* Turn on your Apple TV and navigate to your App Store.

* Search for your VPN app and download it.

* Open the app and follow the on-screen directions to link the app with your VPN account.

That’s it! It may take some time to tweak your VPN settings to get them right. Another option is to set up the VPN directly with your home Wi-Fi router, which is a little more time-consuming but makes it possible for anyone connected to your Wi-Fi to use your VPN. Just keep in mind that some VPNs have device limits.

FAQ

* How do I add Apple TV apps? You can add apps on your Apple TV the same way you would on your iPhone or other Apple devices, via the App Store.

* What are the best Apple TV apps? Picking the best Apple TV apps is subjective because it depends on your watching preferences. However, some apps, such as Netflix, have excellent app support for Apple TV than others and run smoother than other apps.

How to Resize an Image on iPhone

What to Know

* You can lower image quality on your iPhone using the Shortcuts app or using third-party apps to reduce image size in KB/MB.

* Photos can also be resized by cropping it freehand or using pre-set iPhone aspect ratios.

* Finally, your Messages app can be set to reduce the size of images sent.

Learn how to make a picture smaller or bigger or change its aspect ratio on your iPhone using native and third-party apps. We'll teach you how to use the Shortcuts app to manually resize photos, the Photos app to crop photos, and the Messages app settings to automatically send lower-quality photos.

How to Resize Photos on iPhone Using the Shortcuts App

While the Shortcuts app can seem intimidating, it is really easy to create a custom shortcut to resize your photos. Better yet, the shortcut can be added to your Share sheet so that you can resize photos directly from your Photos app. Here’s how to downsize pictures on iPhone:

* Open the Shortcuts app.

* Navigate to the Shortcuts tab if you're not already there, and tap the plus icon in the top right corner.

* Tap Add Action.

* Tap on the search tab at the top and type “resize.”

* Select Resize Image.

* Here you can customize the shortcut if you wish. I recommend trying it the way it is first and looking into customizing it later. Next, tap the i icon at the bottom of your screen.

* Toggle on Show in Share Sheet, then tap Done. Tap Done again to save the shortcut.

* Now, you can test resizing a photo by navigating to a photo in the Photos app and opening a photo you wish to resize. Tap the Share icon.

* Scroll down and tap Resize Image.

Your resized image will be saved in your Recents photos album in the Photos app. You can tap the i icon to see the new size. Below is the resized image compared to the original.

Note

If you wish to customize the shortcut in step 6, first, you can tap 640 and change it to another number of pixels based on the width you want your images to be. The image height will be automatically adjusted to keep the ratio the same. If you tap on Size you can select Percentage and change the image size based on a percentage rather than a number of pixels. You can also add additional steps, such as cropping your image to a certain aspect ratio, automatically saving it in a specific folder, etc.

With the Shortcuts app, almost anything is possible! To learn more about the Shortcuts app and other iPhone tips and tricks, check out our free Tip of the Day newsletter.

How to Crop Photos on iPhone: Aspect Ratios & Freehand

Another popular way to resize an image is to crop your photo in your Photos app. Unless you are cropping it significantly, the total size of the image will not get much smaller. You can crop it freehand or use the preset ratios, including a perfect square. If you use third-party apps to crop your images, such as Round Photo (Free), which can crop photos in a round shape, you can export the cropped image to a certain size in pixels, millimeters, centimeters, or inches. Next, learn how to convert PNG to JPEG or HEIC to JPG on your iPhone.

How to Make Picture File Size Smaller in the Messages App

In the past, it was possible to pick a size for any images you were sharing via the Messages or Mail app. While this is no longer possible, you can change your Messages app settings to automatically send smaller-sized images. Keep in mind that these images might not be good enough to print out or use in certain situations, so you might not want this to happen automatically. Here's how to make a picture smaller in texts automatically:

* Open Settings.

* Tap Messages.

* Scroll all the way down and toggle on Low Quality Image Mode.

Now you know how to reduce photo file size on iPhones automatically when sending text messages.

I have now taught you how to change the resolution of a picture on your iPhone using the native Shortcuts app, Photos app, and Messages app. You can also use third-party apps such as Canva (Free), but there are many to pick from, including AI apps that can even increase the resolution of your photo.

FAQ

* How do I edit pictures on iPhone? You can edit pictures on your iPhone using the native Photos app but also third-party apps, including free ones.

* How do I select the aspect ratio before taking a photo? If you have a preferred aspect ratio and don’t want to keep editing all your photos, you can select the aspect ratio before you hit the shutter button by swiping up in photo mode of the Camera app, tap the circle with ratios, and select the one you wish to take the photo in.

* How do I put two pictures side-by-side on iPhone? You can create a collage with two images side-by-side by using the Combine Images shortcut in iPhone’s native Shortcuts app.

How to Use Personal Voice on Your iPhone

What to Know

* Personal Voice is an accessibility tool that allows you to create a computer-generated voice that sounds just like you.

* You can set this up in the Accessibility settings of your iPhone.

* After setting up Personal Voice, you can use it with Live Speech to speak using your iPhone.

Have you ever wanted a computer-generated version of your own voice? The iPhone's Personal Voice feature allows you to do just that. This accessibility option is a great tool for those at risk of losing their voice, but it can be used by anyone. Below, we'll dive into how to create a Personal Voice on your iPhone.

Jump To:

* What Is Personal Voice on iPhone?

* How to Use Personal Voice

* FAQ

What Is Personal Voice on iPhone?

With Personal Voice, you can create a digitized version of your voice that will read all of your Live Speech text. It's a cool feature and does a pretty convincing job, but it is still very obviously a computer-generated voice. Still, it's a neat feature to play around with, and it's a great asset to anyone who might be at risk of losing their voice. By creating a Personal Voice, you can have the iPhone speak for you using your own voice.

This feature differs from your iPhone's text-to-speech in that Personal Voice is meant to be used with Live Speech so that you can use your iPhone to speak for you. The text-to-speech feature simply reads off text that is on your screen.

Note:

Personal Voice can only be used with the Live Speech accessibility feature. You cannot use your Personal Voice as a Siri voice. However, you can have Siri read messages aloud for you.

How to Use Personal Voice

Personal Voice is an accessibility feature that can be set up in the Settings app. Keep in mind that it will take about 15 minutes to set up, and your iPhone will likely need to spend some time processing the audio files of your voice, which can take an entire day. For more hidden iPhone accessibility features and settings, check out our free Tip of the Day newsletter. Now, here's how to set up your iPhone's personal voice:

* Open the Settings app and tap Accessibility.

* Scroll down and tap Personal Voice.

* Tap Create a Personal Voice.

* You'll see on-screen information about Personal Voice, such as how how to get ready to record your voice, and even name your voice. Tap the Continue button on each screen.

* After naming your voice, your iPhone will prompt you to check the sound quality of your environment. Tap the record button and say the phrase displayed on the screen.

* Tap Listen to listen to the recording you just made, or tap Continue to start setting up your Personal Voice.

* You will then be shown 150 randomly selected phrases which you will need to record. Tap the record button to begin.

* Throughout the process, you can tap the pause button to stop a recording.

* You can tap the circular arrow to start over a particular recording.

* If you want to go back to a previous recording, you can tap the skip forward and back buttons to go back or forward through the phrases you've already recorded.

* You can tap the Continuous Recording button to customize how the recording goes.

* Select either Stop at Each Phrase or Continuous Recording. The former will make it so that you have to manually tap the record button on each new phrase, while the latter will automatically start recording once the new phrase pops up.

* You can tap Done at any time to take a break from the recording process.

* If you want to come back later, follow the first two steps, then tap your Personal Voice at the top of the list.

* Then, tap Continue Recording and the process will resume just as in step 7.

* After you finish recording all 150 phrases, tap Continue and make sure to Allow notifications from Personal Voice so that you can be notified when the process is complete.

* You will need to wait several hours while your iPhone processes the recordings. You can check the progress by repeating steps 1, 2, and 14 to access the voice you've created.

* Once your Personal Voice is ready, you will receive a notification.

That’s how to create a Personal Voice on your iPhone. If you want to know how to use your Personal Voice, all you need to do is enable Live Speech. To do this, open the Settings app, tap Accessibility, tap Live Speech, and enable the Live Speech toggle. Then, just triple-click the side button and type in the phrases anytime you want to have text read aloud in your digital Personal Voice. Next, find out how to use voice control on your iPhone to issue commands with your voice.

FAQ

* Why is my Personal Voice not showing up in Live Speech? If your Personal Voice is not showing up in Live Speech, it could be because your device is not compatible. Personal Voice only works on the iPhone 12 and newer. Additionally, you may need to restart your iPhone to get the feature working.

* What is Live Speech on the iPhone? Live Speech is an accessibility feature that allows one to use their iPhone to speak. Simply type what you want to say in the Live Speech box, and your iPhone will speak it aloud with your selected voice. If you set up a Personal Voice, you can even make your iPhone speak with your voice. This feature also works over the phone and on FaceTime calls.

* How do I turn off Voice Over? Voice Over is a feature separate from Personal Voice and Live Speech. If you are having trouble disabling it, our how to turn off Voice Over article should help you.

How to Unlock a Keyboard on Your Mac—the Easy Way!

What to Know

* If your Mac or MacBook keyboard isn't working, it is likely just locked, not broken.

* If you're using a wireless keyboard, it's also possible the keyboard is out of charge or needs to be connected again via Bluetooth.

Unlocking your Mac keyboard is easy, but the steps depend on whether you have a built-in, Bluetooth, or third-party keyboard. It may seem that your Mac keyboard isn't working when it is actually locked. We'll teach you how to unlock the keyboard on your Mac without a hassle!

Jump To:

* How to Unlock a Built-In MacBook Keyboard

* How to Unlock a Wireless Keyboard

* FAQ

How Can I Unlock the Keyboard on My MacBook?

To lock your built-in MacBook or MacBook Pro keyboard, you simply need to turn your device off. This prevents anyone from typing anything on your Mac. However, they can still use the keyboard to turn on your computer as long as it is charged. So technically, the built-in keyboard never fully locks because you can always use a button to turn your Mac on or press any key to wake it if it's sleeping. As soon as you see your password entry screen, your full keyboard should be unlocked. Be sure to check out our free Tip of the Day for more Apple tutorials!

Pro Tip

With most MacBooks, you can easily check if your built-in keyboard is unlocked by pressing the caps lock key and seeing if the LED light on the key lights up. If it does, your keyboard is not locked!

How to Unlock a Keyboard on Mac That’s Wireless

Wireless keyboards are a little different than built-in ones and may be lockable. For example, the Apple Magic Keyboard has a physical switch that locks your keyboard when it is switched off, and unlocks it when it is turned back on again. When the keyboard is switched on and unlocked, the switch exposes a green color. When locked, it shows gray. So to unlock your Apple Magic Keyboard, make sure your Mac is on and Bluetooth is enabled.

* On your wireless keyboard, move the On/Off switch from gray to green.

Image courtesy of Apple.

* After a few seconds, you'll see Keyboard On message pop-up on your screen.

If this doesn't work, plug your keyboard into your Mac to re-pair the device via Bluetooth. This will also charge it, which could be another reason it isn't working. If you have a third-party keyboard, it may have a On/Off slider or switch similar to the Apple Magic Keyboard. Toggle it off and back on to unlock your keyboard. If you have a wired keyboard, you can also unplug the keyboard and plug it back in to reset and unlock it.

FAQ

* Why is my keyboard not working on my iPhone? Your iPhone keyboard can stop working or appearing or start lagging, glitching, randomly typing, or disappearing for various reasons. Troubleshooting steps include resetting your keyboard dictionary, force quitting the misbehaving app, restarting your iPhone, and updating to the latest software.

* Can I use a keyboard with my iPhone? Yes, you can use a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone. While you still have to work with the smaller screen, this is a great hack if you wind up temporarily without a computer.

* How can I cut, copy and paste using Mac keyboard shortcuts? You can do press the Command (or cmd) ⌘ key along with letters such as A, C, V, and Z to select all, copy, paste, and undo text on your Mac.
