Best SharePlay Apps for iPhone & iPad

SharePlay is a feature introduced in iOS 15.0.1 that allows users to share media, games, and more over FaceTime. However, not every app offers SharePlay capabilities, and it can be hard to know which apps are best optimized for this new feature. We've put together a list of the nine best apps for SharePlay to help get you going with this fun new option. Best SharePlay Compatible Games & Apps Whether you're looking for games to play on FaceTime or other ways to connect with people far away, SharePlay has many different options. Here are nine of the best SharePlay apps to help enrich your video chat experience. For more ways to get the most out of SharePlay, check out our Tip of the Day. Hulu (Starting at $6.99/month) My sister and I like to watch shows together even though we're half a country apart, and Hulu has our favorite shows. You can really choose whichever streaming service you prefer (though Netflix is a notable exception at present as it has not yet offered SharePlay support), but the Hulu app works smoothly, has many options, and is my current favorite. TikTok (Free) TikTok is lots of fun, and can be even more enjoyable when you're sharing videos with someone. Even though you can always send them via direct message or a similar way, nothing beats seeing someone's reaction when you show them a video you know will make them laugh. TikTok has great SharePlay support and can be a great bonding experience. Redfin Real Estate (Free) It may seem a little strange for a real estate app to make this list, but hear me out. Not only does using this app over SharePlay let you show pictures and videos of potential homes to friends and family whose opinions you want, but it can also help people who are buying or renting a home together look at options when they aren't physically in the same place. Whether you just want to daydream with your far away best friend of the mansion you'll buy together someday or want to show your parents in another state the home you're about to make an offer on, SharePlay supports Redfin beautifully. Apple Music ($9.99/month) Funnily enough, Spotify does not currently support SharePlay. So, your go-to music sharing app is Apple Music. Create playlists together or just share a song that you've been jamming to over video call without having to worry about sound distortion or instructing the other person how to find the song in their own library. Apple Fitness+ ($10/month) Do a group workout remotely! Apple Fitness+ has new SharePlay capabilities that let you and your friends all take a class together. Healthy competition can be a great motivator, or you can just cheer each other on. If you're someone who likes group classes, this is an excellent way to use SharePlay. Shhh! (Free) Shhh! is one of the best options for FaceTime games. Each player is given a role, and through questions and deduction, you must find out who the spy is. This is a great one for virtual parties and FaceTime capabilities enable you to read the other players' expressions — a must for a game like this. Doneit (Free) Coordinating schedules can be hard enough in person, but trying to look at task lists over video chat is a whole different circus. Doneit's SharePlay capabilities simplify this process, enabling all of you to virtually look at task lists together, a great asset for workplaces and families alike. Kahoot! (Free) Kahoot! is a great one for those with a little learner in their life. Spend quality time together playing educational games and build up your knowledge base. While this is a great option for schools and anyone with kids, it's great for all ages, so curious adults will have a great time, too. It's also important to know how to undo a photo edit on a Mac, in case you don't like how the edits look. Let's get started. * Open the photo you’d like to edit, and click Edit.    * Click Adjust at the top of the screen.    * You’ll see multiple options on the right. Click the small arrows next to Light, Color, or Black & White to reveal filter options. Tap a filter to choose it.     * Click Auto next to one of these options, and the Photos app will automatically adjust the setting. A checkmark will appear when you’ve tapped Auto or chosen a filter.    * Click the arrow next to Retouch, then click the paintbrush icon and drag the slider bar to make the circle slightly larger than the area you want to retouch. Click and drag the cursor from an area you’d like to copy to areas you’d like to remove, such as a blemish.    * Click Auto next to Red-Eye to allow the Photos app to automatically reduce or eliminate the red-eye effect in your picture.  * Or, click the arrow next to Red-Eye to reveal a paintbrush and size slider that will allow you to drag over and eliminate the red-eye effect.    * The White Balance editing tool works the same way as Red-Eye and Retouch. You can either choose the Auto option or click the arrow and adjust manually.  * Click the arrow next to Curves, then click Auto, and the Photos app will automatically balance the red, green, and blue in your photo. * Alternately, click Red, Green, or Blue from the drop-down menu, then click and bend the curve with your cursor to adjust each color level.    * Here’s an example of using the curves tool manually to adjust Red levels. I’ve dragged the curve upwards with the cursor, resulting in more prominent red tones in the photo.    * Click the down arrow next to Levels, then click Auto to have the Photos app balance the brightness levels in your image.  * Click the drop-down menu next to Levels, select an option, then click and drag on a teardrop shape at the bottom of the field to the left or right to adjust the color.    * Click the arrow next to Definition, click Auto, and the Photos app will adjust levels for you. * Drag the slider under Definition to make the borders in your photo softer or more crisp.    * Click the arrow next to Selective Color and drag the bars by Hue, Saturation, Luminance, and Range to adjust these settings.  * Click the dropper icon, then click on a particular color in the photo to adjust it, using the Hue, Saturation, Luminance, and Range sliders.    * If you don’t like any of the manual adjustments you’ve made in any of the above categories, click Reset Adjustments.    * To get rid of all edits and changes you’ve made to your picture, click Revert to Original. Reminders Not Syncing? Try These 5 Tips

Are you having trouble with Reminders not showing up on iPhone or Mac? If you're struggling with how to sync Reminders from iPhone to Mac or iPad, or vice versa, we've put together a list of troubleshooting tips to help you get your Reminders back. Check These Things First The Reminders app on your iPhone can only sync with other devices through iCloud. Sign in to all of your devices using the same Apple ID. * Make sure you're connected to the internet. Because the Reminders app depends on iCloud to sync between devices, it needs a stable internet connection or access to cellular data to function. * Check your iCloud storage limit: if you have used up all your iCloud storage, your Reminders may not sync across devices. Now that we've gone over the basics, let's dive into some more involved troubleshooting tips for how to sync Reminders from iPhone to Mac and other Apple devices. This data will be available as soon as you sign back in again, but if you're concerned, you may want to make a backup of your iPhone before signing out of iCloud.   * Confirm Sign Out.   * Confirm Sign Out again.   * After you're signed out, you'll be returned to Settings. Tap on Start Using iCloud.   * Tap Start Using iCloud.   * Tap Continue.   * Enter your iPhone Passcode.   * Tap Merge. Now you're signed back into iCloud. Give it a minute, then check your Reminders app to see if it has synced up. How to Fix One AirPod Not Working

Since AirPods are not attached like wired headphones, it is possible to end up with only one AirPod working. This article covers the quickest way to troubleshoot a single AirPod not working or charging. I'll also explain how to fix AirPod volume so that both pairs sound equally loud. Finally, I'll tell you if and how you can buy one AirPod only. Jump To: * Left or Right Airpod Not Working: Troubleshooting Steps * How to Fix AirPods Quiet in One Ear * Why Does One AirPod Die Faster * Does Apple Sell Separate AirPods Left or Right Airpod Not Working: Troubleshooting Steps Are your AirPods only playing in one ear? It happens. If you experience your left or right AirPod Pro not working, follow these steps to fix it. These work for any model of AirPods. 1. Fully Charge The AirPods Charging Case The very first thing to do is make sure the charging case for your AirPods is fully charged. To check that the AirPods Case is fully charged, remove the AirPods and plug the case in or place it on a wireless charger. If the light on an empty AirPods Case is green, it is fully charged. 2. Charge AirPods in Case for 30 Seconds Put both AirPods back in the case to let it charge them for at least 30 seconds. Even if just one AirPod is experiencing problems, do this with both to make sure that everything is working as it should. 3. Check That Both AirPods Are Charging Open the AirPod case near your iPhone. A popup will appear, showing you the battery levels of the case and each AirPod. The most common reason for one AirPod not working is that it ran out of battery. If the battery level on the "faulty" AirPod was low, try listening to it again once it's charged. If the battery level in the popup shows both AirPods only, remove one and keep the case open. Open Today View and check the Batteries widget to check them one by one, making sure that both AirPods are able to charge without issue. Checking if the AirPods are charging can also rule out other issues. If both AirPods show the lighting icon, you can move on to the next step. If one or both aren’t charging, skip to step 5. 4. Play Audio to Test the AirPods If both AirPods were sufficiently charged and they don't have problems charging in the case, put them on and try playing music on them. If one AirPod still isn't working, try resetting it next. 5. Reset Your AirPods Next, it’s time to try and reset your AirPods by selecting Forget This Device from the Bluetooth Settings of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. For step-by-step instructions on how to reset AirPods of any model, read this. You'll have to reconnect the AirPods again to check if the issue has been resolved. 6. Clean Your AirPods It may sound simplistic, but a buildup of gunk can mute or even silence an AirPod. Be really careful when you clean your AirPods, and check out these cleaning tips. Make sure to keep your AirPods dry as water can damage them. If your Airpods get wet, do this. 7. Turn Bluetooth Off & Back On Again on Your iPhone Sometimes the AirPods are not to blame, and a Bluetooth glitch is causing problems. Open the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of your screen. Tap the Bluetooth button to turn it off, wait a few seconds, and tap it again to turn it back on. 8. Reset the Default Settings on Your Device If one AirPod still isn't working, it may be an issue with the settings on your device. You can test this by trying your AirPods on another device. Or, you can try another pair of AirPods or earbuds on that device to see if the problem is on the device.  If you determine that your device is causing the problem, first update it to the latest software version. Updates often contain common bug fixes, so it is always worth doing. If this doesn't work, try resetting next: * Open Settings.   * Tap General.   * Scroll down to Transfer or Reset iPhone.   * Tap Reset All Settings. This will only reset your device to its default settings; it won't delete any data. However, if you have made other changes to your settings, this will undo them and could be time-consuming to restore. 9. Contact Apple Support If you’ve followed these steps with no success, it may be time to reach out to the professionals. Contact Apple Support directly and see if they have any tips. If your AirPods are under warranty, they may be able to fix them for free or for a reduced fee. How to Fix AirPods Quiet in One Ear If you notice that your Apple AirPods are really quiet, or if one seems quieter than the other, there may be a quick way to fix this. The issue may be your stereo balance settings.  How to change AirPod settings: * Open Settings.   * Tap Accessibility.   * Select Audio/Visual.   * Under Balance, check that the slider is right in between L and R.   * Toggle Mono Audio off if it is on. Pro Tip: Ever wonder, “Why do my AirPods sound low sometimes?” If your iPhone or iPad is in low power mode, it may automatically lower the volume of your AirPods. To learn more tips like how to use low power mode, sign up for our free Tip of the Day newsletter. Related: How to Make Your AirPods' Batteries Last Longer Why Does One AirPod Die Faster If one of your AirPod seems to always run out of battery quicker than the other, you may have configured just one AirPod to use the microphone. To check this: * Open Settings.   * Tap Bluetooth.   * Next to your AirPods, tap the "i" icon.   * Under Press and Hold AirPods, make sure that both Left and Right say Noise Control.   * If only one says Siri, it will drain faster than the other.   * Tap it and select Noise Control to slow the battery drain on that AirPod. If both AirPods are set to Siri or Noise Control, they should drain at a similar rate. However, keep in mind that many factors can cause one to drain faster than the other. Does Apple Sell Separate AirPods No, you cannot buy a single AirPod from Apple through the Apple Store. However, you can buy a replacement through Apple Support. You have to go through the official Apple Support website. You can buy a replacement for an individual lost or damaged AirPod or just the case.  Buying a replacement costs $89 for one AirPod Pro and $69 for one AirPod. Fixing a damaged AirPod costs the same out-of-warranty or just $29 per incident if you have AppleCare+. If your AirPod or Charging Case holds under 80 percent of the battery's original capacity, you can send them in for Battery Service. This is free if you have AppleCare+ and costs $49 each for both AirPod and AirPod Pros out-of-warranty. It is also possible to buy and sell individual AirPods via third-party marketplaces. However, it is harder to verify that you are buying a legitimate product, so it is recommended to go through Apple directly. Return to top The troubleshooting steps outlined in this article should help you fix issues such as one AirPod not connecting, right or left AirPod not working, and only one AirPod working at a time. AirPods are excellent earbuds and can work seamlessly with your Apple and even non-Apple devices. Taking the time to work out any glitches is worth the final result, especially if you take advantage of the new Spatial Audio features.How-ToAirPodsBluetoothTroubleshootingVolume/Sound/HapticsDevice ManagementMaster your iPhone in one minute a day: Sign up here to get our FREE Tip of the Day delivered right to your inbox.

iPhone Calendar Not Syncing? Try These 9 Tips

If you're having trouble with your iPhone calendar not syncing up with your other Apple devices, or vice versa, try these troubleshooting tips to ensure all your calendar events show up correctly on all your devices. Related: How to Retrieve Deleted Text Messages on iPhone Jump To: * iCloud Calendar Not Syncing? Check These Things First * How to Fix iPhone Calendar Not Syncing iCloud Calendar Not Syncing? Check These Things First The Calendar app on your iPhone can only sync with other devices through iCloud. Before we get into more involved troubleshooting tips, let's go over a few things that will need to be configured properly for your iPhone calendar to sync with other devices: * Make sure the iCloud Calendar system is up and running via Apple's site. If the system is down, your iPhone calendar is not syncing, and you'll need to wait until the system is back up and check again. * Go through each of your devices and check that the date and time are correct. If the date and/or time is wrong on one or more devices, that may account for iCloud Calendar not syncing across devices. * If your iCal is not syncing, it may be because you're signed in with different Apple IDs across your devices. Sign in to all of your devices using the same Apple ID. * Make sure you're connected to the internet. * Check your iCloud storage limit: if you have used up all your iCloud storage, your calendar may not sync across devices. Turn On Calendars in iCloud Settings For your iPhone Calendar app to sync across all your Apple devices, you'll need to make sure iCloud has access to it. Here's how: * Open Settings.   * Tap on your name.   * Tap iCloud.   * If Calendars is toggled off, toggle it on.   * Tap Merge to include all existing local calendars on your iPhone. If Calendars is already on, you can also try toggling it off, then back on again. This may act as a kind of soft "reset." Give it a few minutes, then check to see if your calendars are syncing across devices now. Enable Calendar Synchronization for All Accounts If your iPhone calendar is not syncing to your other devices, make sure that your devices are able to send and receive calendar data for all your accounts. Here's how to check this setting on your iPhone: * Open Settings. * Tap Calendar.   * Tap Accounts.   * Select an account. We've already shown you how to turn on Calendars for your iCloud account above, so here I'll select Gmail.   * Toggle Calendars on. Make Sure Calendar Has Access to Mobile Data If you experience trouble with your iPhone calendar not syncing when not connected to the internet, it may be because your Calendar app does not have access to mobile data. Here's how to make sure your calendars can sync even when you don't have an internet connection: * Open Settings. * Tap Cellular.   * Scroll down to Calendar and make sure it is toggled on. Refresh Your Calendar App Sometimes, if iCal is not syncing, you may just need to refresh the app to give it time to pull up new information. Here's how: * Open the Calendar app.   * Tap the Calendars tab at the bottom of the screen.   * Swipe down from the top of the screen and wait for the refresh animation to stop playing.   * Tap Done and see if your calendars have updated. Restart the Calendar App Restarting apps (and devices, but we'll get to that later) is a good catch-all troubleshooting tip when you're having otherwise mysterious trouble. To restart the Calendar app to fix your iPhone calendar not syncing: * Open the Calendar app. * Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to halfway up the screen to open the App Switcher.   * Swipe the Calendar app all the way up to the top of the screen to close it.   * Tap outside of the App Switcher to return to the Home screen. * Tap the Calendar app to open it again, and see if it has updated. Disable Low Data Mode Your iPhone can use Low Data mode to preserve Wi-Fi or cellular data. When it does this, certain functions like app synchronization may be temporarily paused. This may cause your iPhone calendar to not sync. Here's how to turn it off: * Open Settings. * Tap Cellular.   * Tap Cellular Data Options.   * Toggle Low Data Mode off. Disable Low Power Mode Like Low Data Mode with cellular data, Low Power Mode exists to save battery life as much as possible and can also temporarily suspend functions and cause your iPhone calendar not to sync. * Open Settings. * Tap Battery.   * Toggle Low Power Mode off. Restart Devices Earlier, we tried closing and opening the Calendar app on your iPhone to fix an iPhone calendar not syncing. If closing and restarting the Calendar app doesn't work, you can also try to restart your devices to get your calendars to sync across all of them. If you're not sure how to restart your iPhone or iPad, you can read this article on restarting your iPhone X or later and how to force restart iPhones and iPads. Restarting your device may help any malfunctioning apps fix themselves, so after you've booted back up, check your calendar again to see if the syncing issues have resolved themselves. Remove & Re-Add Calendar The logic behind this tip is similar to that behind restarting an app or device to fix otherwise mysterious problems. Sometimes, something has gone wrong that you can't easily identify, and the best way to fix it is just to start from scratch. In this final tip, we'll be deleting and then adding a calendar account to help fix issues with iCal not syncing. * Open Settings. * Tap Calendar.   * Tap Accounts.   * Tap the account you want to disconnect (this will be a third-party account, like a Gmail account).   * Tap Delete Account.   * Tap Delete from My iPhone.   * One your account is deleted, you'll be returned to the Accounts screen. Tap Add Account.   * Tap the name of the service you just deleted.   * Tap Continue.   * Sign in to your account using the directions on-screen. * When the account is added back, make sure Calendars is toggled on.   * Tap Save. Your account should now be added. Give it a few minutes, then check your Calendar apps across devices to see if that helped. How to Use the New Apple Watch Keyboard

The Apple Watch can do a lot entirely independently of the iPhone, but typing on the watch has always been one of the biggest obstacles. While Apple Watch keyboard apps are an option, the new Apple Watch Series 7 keyboard is a game changer! What’s in This Article: * Apple Watch Texting Keyboard Requirements * How to Get a Keyboard on Apple Watch Series 7 * How to Text on Apple Watch 7 Using the Full Keyboard Apple Watch Texting Keyboard Requirements: * Apple Watch Series 7 * watchOS 8 or later software All you need for the keyboard to work is the Apple Watch Series 7 running watchOS 8 or later software! Older models of the Apple Watch will need to use a third-party app. Sign up for our free Tip of the Day newsletter to learn how to get a free keyboard for Apple Watch and other great tips. How to Get a Keyboard on Apple Watch Series 7 You will automatically get the keyboard if you are running the latest software on an Apple Watch 7 or later model. If you aren't seeing it, double-check that your Apple Watch is up to date. If you're not sure which model you have, read this to determine which Apple Watch Series you have. Once you’ve made sure you have the correct model and software, try restarting your watch if you still can’t see the keyboard. Finally, if none of this works, you’ll have to contact Apple support directly. How to Text on Apple Watch 7 Using the Full Keyboard The new Apple Watch texting keyboard makes it so much easier to type on your watch. To use your keyboard: * Open Messages on your Apple Watch.   * Tap on an existing texting thread or write a new message.   * Tap Create Message. If you are responding to a text, you'll have to tap on iMessage.   * Tap the letters individually to write words.   * If you have a typo, the correct spelling will be suggested underneath the word. Tap it to fix the spelling.   * You can also use the swipe feature to glide your finger over the letters without tapping each individually to write. It works the same on Apple Watch as it does on the iPad and iPhone. * You can still use dictation and emoticons along with the full keyboard.    * If you make any mistakes, you can fix them using the backspace key on the keyboard.   * To switch from letters to numbers, tap the 123 button.   * To type symbols that aren’t available within the number keyboard, tap #+=.   * To see the full message you've written better, tap the text, and the keyboard will disappear.   * Tap the keyboard to return to typing.   * Tap Done when you are finished and send the message like you normally would. Pro Tip: If you use a bumper to protect your Apple Watch, you may struggle to tap the letters and buttons along the edges of the display. If you remove it, you should be able to type smoothly without issue.  Now you know how to type on Apple Watch using the full keyboard! I was skeptical that it would be functional, but it does work quite well, although I still prefer to text on my iPhone when possible. I still like to dictate to text when the message is long, but I have found the keyboard incredibly useful when fixing dictation errors. Fitbit vs. Apple Watch: The Ultimate Guide

Today there are three models of the Apple Watch for sale and even more Fitbit options. When picking the right device, there are many factors to consider. For example, do you want a smart watch, calorie tracker, or health-monitoring device? Then there's price, battery life, compatibility, and so much more to consider next! Let me help you figure out if an Apple Watch or Fitbit is right for you and which model is best. What's in This Article: * Quick Choice Guide: Fitbit vs. Apple Watch * Cost, Compatibility, & Feature Comparison Table * Apple Watch vs Fitbit Accuracy: Heart Rate, Calories, & Steps * The Final Verdict Quick Choice Guide: Fitbit vs. Apple Watch Here is a quick, at-a-glance infographic to help you pick the best device based on some major factors. You can also refer to my comparison table below for a more thorough look at a wide variety of factors. This only includes currently sold models on the manufacturers' websites: Pro Tip: If you are set on getting an Apple Watch, check out this thorough guide on which Apple Watch is the best one.  Cost, Compatibility, & Feature Comparison Table One of the biggest differences between Apple Watches and Fitbits is compatibility. The Apple Watch is only compatible with iPhones. In fact, you can’t use an Apple Watch without an iPhone unless you are part of a Family Sharing group, which is only appropriate for children.  A Fitbit is universally compatible with any modern smartphone. You can even add Fitbit app to Apple Health if you are an iPhone user. So while iPhone users have a lot more to consider, Android users are limited to Fitbit, although there are many models to pick from! Android users can skip to the Fitbit comparison section, although you may consider switching to iPhone to use an Apple Watch, which is not unheard of. *Prices as of November 2021. Apple Watch vs. Fitbit Accuracy: Heart Rate, Calories & Steps Both Apple Watch and Fitbit can track and measure data, but which does it best? An official study compared several trackers, including the Apple Watch 2, Fitbit Alta, and the Fitbit Charge 2. All three watches were released in 2016 and are outdated today. Still, the study concluded that all watches recorded fairly accurate step counts while the Fitbit Charge 2 and Apple Watch 2 had the most accurate heart rate estimation. All watches significantly underestimated moderate-to-vigorous minutes of activity in the free-living setting. We can expect that the newer models are even mode advanced. Heart Rate Accuracy Years later, Apple Watch tracks resting heart rate as well as ECG readings. It can even detect atrial fibrillation. But people still ask, "How accurate is my Apple Watch heart rate?" The answer is very. Although it cannot compare to a professional medical device, it is perfect for ordinary people who use it for fitness purposes. There are also ways to make sure it is as accurate as possible. Although the Apple Watch has impressive heart health features, Fitbit measures Active Zone Minutes. These take your heart rate zones into consideration and award you double the minutes for being in a particular active heart rate zone. Fitbit exercise heart rate zones are helpful fitness and health metrics that Apple Watch doesn't offer. Both devices can be confusing when it comes to counting exercise minutes. Fitbit may give you extras, while Apple Watch is more stingy. According to a study by the University of Oregon, Apple Watch 3 is slightly more accurate than the Fitbit Charge 2. Best Step Counter One of the most significant differences between Fitbits and Apple Watches is the ultimate fitness goal. Fitbits track many metrics, but the main goal of every model is reaching your step goal. When you reach it, you get a notification. The Apple Watch focuses on closing three Activity Rings that track Stand Minutes, Exercise Minutes, and Move Calories. You get notified when you reach each goal and when you reach all three. Can you calculate steps on Apple Watch? Yes. But people who switch to Apple Watch after using a Fitbit complain because you have to use a third-party app complication to add your step count to your watch face. Both the complication and step count in the Activity app show up with a delay, and you are not notified when you reach your step goal.  Fitbit vs. Apple Watch Calorie Accuracy How do smartwatches measure calories anyway? Basically, they have sensors that analyze your body's movement, acceleration, and other factors, including heart rate. Fitness trackers also have information about you, such as your height, weight, and age, and all this is used to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate in order to measure calories burned.  Burning calories on Apple Watch is one of the three main fitness goals, which Apple calls the Move goal. How accurate is the Move goal on Apple Watch? If you enter your physical measurements and wear your watch correctly, it is considerably accurate.  According to a study done by Stanford University in 2017, Apple Watch had the lowest overall error when compared to other trackers, including the Fitbit Surge. Fitbit Surge had a 27% median error, which was better than most other trackers in the study. Plus, it has gotten even better since then! Stress Management and Skin Temperature Fitbit offers two features that Apple Watch doesn't: stress management and skin temperature. Even though Apple Watch does have a Mindfulness app, formerly known as Breathe, there is no measured stress metric.  All Fitbits running on the newest software offer a Stress Management Score feature that calculates how the wearer's body responds to stress using a scale of 1-100. It factors in heart rate, sleep, and activity level data. The Fitbit Charge 5 and Fitbit Sense also have an EDA sensor that measures electrodermal activity, physical signs of stress, and other mental health indicators.  Most Fitbits can also measure skin temperature. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean that you can check your core temperature using your watch. Instead, it is used to track skin temperature variation each night which helps users alter their environment to improve their sleep. The Final Verdict Comparing the Fitbit and Apple Watch is tough. The most notable differences are that the Apple Watch is more expensive, has a much lower battery life, and is only compatible with iPhones. The LTE version can even function almost entirely independently of a phone. Many agree that it is the best smartwatch option, and it happens to be the most popular watch in the world. The Fitbit creates great smartwatches, but they are better known for their fitness trackers. Higher-end Fitbits track many exciting health parameters and have features that the Apple Watch doesn't offer, such as the EDA and skin temperature sensors that help with stress management and sleep tracking. Most Apple Watch and Fitbit models are waterproof and can track swimming workouts. They both have changeable bands for personalization, although Apple Watches offer an additional choice of screen size for every model. Both have pros and cons, and the ultimate answer to which is better depends highly on individual needs and preferences. As an iPhone user, I prefer the Apple Watch because I want a smartwatch fully integrated into my Apple ecosystem. For example, I can use my Apple Watch to find my other Apple devices using Find My, which is incredibly convenient. However, Fitbit does sync to Apple Health and can answer calls when a paired iPhone is near enough. Seeing the extra heath metrics, affordable price, and incomparable battery life of a Fitbit does tempt me to consider a Fitbit in the future. Why Is My iPhone Hot? How to Stop Your Phone Overheating

Is your iPhone getting hot or overheating at random times? While you might have a damaged hardware component, the culprit can also be software bugs, battery-sucking apps, and defective chargers. To help you avoid an unnecessary trip to the Apple store, we've compiled a list of common issues and easy solutions to stop your iPhone heating up.  Jump To:  * Why Is My iPhone Overheating? * iPhone Overheating & Too Hot to Use? How to Cool Down Your iPhone * Common Fixes: How to Stop Phone from Overheating Why Is My iPhone Overheating? Keep in mind that an iPhone simply growing warm is normal. This will often happen when you're using your iPhone and charging it at the same time, playing video games, watching videos, or using your GPS for long periods of time. However, if your iPhone feels hot to the touch, this is cause for concern. But don't make that trip to the Apple store just yet! While this can be the sign of faulty hardware (such as your iPhone battery), the issue can also be buggy software or simply an energy-sucking setting that needs to be adjusted. Sometimes the solution is simple, such as replacing a poorly-constructed iPhone case or defunct charger. We'll walk you through the most common fixes covering how to stop your phone from overheating so that you can get your iPhone temperature to stabilize back to normal levels.  iPhone Overheating & Too Hot to Use? How to Cool Down Your iPhone If you've got an iPhone temperature warning and your iPhone needs to cool down before using it, unplug the charger, remove the phone case, and turn the device off. Then place your iPhone somewhere cool that is not in direct sunlight. An iPhone temperature warning is rare, and usually only happens when your device has been left in the sun on a hot day. High temperatures put your device hardware at risk, so even if your device is still functional, but is hot to the touch, you should follow the steps above and wait until your device has cooled down before troubleshooting.  Important Note: If your device has overheated and you need to cool down your iPhone, do not place your iPhone directly in contact with cold air (such as in the fridge or in front of the AC). Cooling too quickly can cause condensation to form on the inside of your phone leading to internal water damage.  Common Fixes: How to Stop Phone from Overheating Again If you're interested in learning more about how to make your iPhone last longer or make the most of your device's features, I recommend checking out our free Tip of the Day. Now, let's start troubleshooting. Fix #1: Install Any New iPhone Software Updates Updating your iPhone to the newest iOS isn't just about getting the latest-and-greatest features. Each update also contains bug fixes and improvements that can resolve software glitches and reduce the strain on your iPhone's battery.  Because of this, installing the latest iOS update (if not already installed) is one of the first troubleshooting steps you should take. If you're unsure how to check for and install an iPhone update, here's a helpful article covering how to update your iPhone to the latest Apple Software. As an added bonus, you can also enable automatic iPhone software updates, which is great if you prefer to avoid having to manually update each time.  Fix #2: Install Any Available iPhone App Updates The next step is to cover our bases and install any available app updates. With their fun colors and cute icons, your apps might seem harmless. However, they may contain corrupted code causing them to burn too much energy while performing an action or continuing to run in the background even when they shouldn't. Let's install available iPhone app updates to see if this resolves the problem (and give your potentially problematic apps a chance to redeem themselves).  Fix #3: Check to See If an App Is Crashing If you've installed a buggy app, you likely know if it is crashing based on how it acts when you use it. If you're using an app and it suddenly closes for no reason, freezes and becomes unresponsive, or disappears when you tap to launch it, the app is crashing. Not only is this frustrating, it is also a sign of corrupted code, which may be wasting enough energy that it is causing your iPhone to overheat. If you've got an app exhibiting this behavior, it's good practice to go ahead and reinstall it. But if you want to double-check if an app is crashing, you can view this by following the steps below:  * Open the Settings app. * Select Privacy.  * Tap Analytics & Improvements.  * Select Analytics Data.  * Now you'll see a list of app crashes and bugs.  Don't worry if you're not a tech guru! You don't even need to open the reports. Simply skim the headers, which take the format of [Analytics-App Name-Date]. If you see a specific app name listed many times in a day (or over several hours), this is an app that is repeatedly crashing. If you've got an app that's crashing, you should delete and reinstall the app. However, if you find that this doesn't resolve the buggy behavior, I recommend just deleting the app and finding a similar alternative to install instead.  Fix #4: Check Whether a Certain App Is Draining Your Battery Now, let's check to see if a certain app is hogging your iPhone battery. We've got a great article covering how to check which apps use the most iPhone battery, as well as some easy methods to prevent battery drain. Of course, how much battery an app uses depends on how often you use the app and whether or not it is running in the background. So when you check for apps draining battery, you're looking for things out of the ordinary. For example, if you've used Facebook for a total of five minutes today and it is listed as using 47% of your battery since the last charge, it's time to take action! If your app has been acting buggy and crashing, your next step should be to delete and reinstall the app. However, the app battery drain might also be happening because it is set to run in the background. In this case, jump to the section below to disable background app refresh.  Fix #5: Turn Off Background App Refresh Background app refresh is a feature that allows your apps to look for new information at all times so they're ready to go when you launch them. If you use an app on a regular basis (such as your Mail app), background refresh is great. However, it drains battery life, which makes this feature less appealing for apps you don't use often. To extend your battery life and help keep your phone from getting hot, you can turn off background app refresh for all apps or for specific apps you don't often use.  Fix #6: Remove Widgets Running in the Background I'll start with a quick disclaimer: I love widgets and have far more than I need running on my iPhone Home screens. Never once have widgets caused my iPhone to overheat or act buggy. While this is a less likely cause of iPhone overheating it is good to test regardless. If you have an older iPhone, it is possible that multiple widgets working in the background at once have overloaded the CPU. You also might have a widget connected to a third-party app that is buggy. In either case, I recommend deleting widgets for a day or so to see if this stops your iPhone from getting hot.  Fix #7: Check Your Charger If Your iPhone Is Getting Hot When Charging If you're specifically wondering, why does my phone get hot when charging, I highly recommend taking a close look at your charger. While it is normal for your iPhone to be slightly warmer while charging (especially if you're using it at the same time), you should be concerned if your iPhone feels hot to the touch. Are you using a charger that isn't Apple certified? Cheap chargers purchased from third-party companies have the potential to be defective. In this case, your iPhone overheating may be caused by a charger putting strain on your iPhone. While it is tempting to buy an $8 charger instead of the $20 version through Apple, you'll pay far more in the near future if your iPhone battery is damaged by a poorly designed charger.  Fix #8: Remove Your Heavy iPhone Case Initially, this might sound a bit strange! But unlike your Mac, which has fans to help keep it cool, your iPhone simply disperses heat through its metal frame. Because of this, a poorly-manufactured phone case can actually prevent your iPhone from releasing heat. Check to make sure the heavy case surrounding your iPhone isn't causing the overheating. To do this, remove the case from your iPhone and test by using it for a day or so. If the overheating stops, simply replace your iPhone case to solve the issue. Fix #9: Change the Brightness of Your iPhone’s Screen Simply put, higher brightness requires more battery. If you often keep your iPhone on high or maximum brightness, adjusting the brightness of your iPhone screen will reduce the strain on your battery (particularly on older iPhones).  Fix #10: Force Restart Your iPhone If your iPhone is running hot after trying the above solutions, I recommend performing a force restart. Unlike a factory reset which erases all of your settings and data, a force restart is simply a different way of turning off your iPhone. A force restart cuts the power from the iPhone's battery to the hardware, allowing us to reset your iPhone at a hardware level.    Fix #11: Back Your Phone Up to iCloud & Do a Factory Reset If the force restart and solutions above have not resolved your issue, it may be time to do a factory reset. To do this, you'll first need to back up your iPhone to iCloud and then factory reset your iPhone. A factory reset erases all settings and data, which will then need to be restored with your iCloud backup after it is completed. While inconvenient, this is the most thorough way to reset your device and resolve underlying issues.  When All Else Fails, Contact Apple Support If you've tried the solutions above and your phone is still getting hot, you likely do have a damaged battery or faulty hardware component. At this point, your best chance to get your device working is to go to the nearest Apple store. Apple store employees can help determine the underlying issue with your iPhone. If you don't have an Apple store nearby, you can also contact Apple support for help and instructions.  How-ToiPhoneSettingsBatteryiOSDevice ManagementMaster your iPhone in one minute a day: Sign up here to get our FREE Tip of the Day delivered right to your inbox.

How to Turn Off Deliver Quietly on iPhone

You turned off message notifications or notifications for another app, but now you want to turn them back on. We're all entitled to change our minds, so it's important to know how to reverse these things. Deliver Quietly isn't actually the setting anymore, as of iOS 15, so now you're really just turning back on notifications that have been turned off for any app. For this example, we will use iMessage, but you can follow these steps for any app. Here's how to enable iMessage notifications when they've been turned off. How to Turn Off Deliver Quietly on iPhone/Enable Message Notifications Deliver Quietly is a thing of the past as of iOS 15, but you can still turn on iMessage notifications that have been turned off. This means, you'll receive push notifications when iMessages come in that show up on your Lock screen. So, if you're looking for how to turn Deliver Quietly off, know there is nothing with that name on your iPhone anymore if you have iOS 15, but you can still re-enable notifications. For more ways to manage your notifications, check out our Tip of the Day.  How to Fix Not Getting Text Notifications on iPhone * Open Settings and tap Messages. * Tap Notifications. * Toggle Allow Notifications on. Apple Pay Not Working? Here's the Fix!

Why is Apple Pay not working? Hitting obstacles at the point of payment is an extremely frustrating experience, and can even land you in a real pinch. Luckily, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try when you run into problems with Apple Pay, and we'll go over them all here. Here's what to do when Apple Pay won't work. Jump To: * Check Your Battery Life * See if Apple Pay Is Down * Check with the Store * Remove Your Case * Choose Credit * Manually Select Your Card * Remove & Re-Add the Card * Troubleshoot Your Device * Check your Apple Pay Settings * Call Your Bank How to Fix Apple Pay Not Working on iPhone Why does my Apple Pay not work? We'll go over all the possible causes and the fix for each. For more ways to overcome your Apple issues, check out our Tip of the Day. 1. Check Your Battery Life Low Battery Mode can throw all your apps out of whack, including Apple Pay. If your battery is below 20 percent, and Apple Pay suddenly isn't working, the low battery could be the culprit. Charge your battery and try again. 2. See if Apple Pay Is Down Although Apple has good consistency with its services, sometimes a system does go down. To see if your Apple Pay error is a problem on Apple's end, check Apple's System Status page. Apple Pay & Wallet should have a green circle next to it to show it is up and working. If it doesn't, that might be your problem. 3. Check with the Store Some stores don't accept Apple Pay, so it's always a good idea to ask before trying to use it. If the store does accept Apple Pay but isn't working with your device, try a different reader. Sometimes the issue is on the other end. 4. Remove Your Case Sometimes your iPhone case can get in the way of using Apple Pay on a reader. Try taking your case off and scanning again to see if this works. 5.v Choose Credit If you're trying to use a debit card, try running it as credit instead. Reportedly, sometimes Apple Pay can be finicky with debit, but users have had success switching to credit. 6. Manually Select Your Card It's possible your default card isn't what you thought it is, and that's what's messing you up. More than once I've been confused about which of the cards in my Wallet I was paying with and ended up unable to pay with the one that was selected. If you're running into trouble, go into your Wallet app and manually select the card you want to use. All you have to do is tap on it, and, if all is right, you should see a notification reading, "[CARD NAME] is ready for Apple Pay." 7. Remove & Re-Add the Card If there's a glitch somewhere in your card processing, removing and re-adding the card can be the magic bullet. Learn how to remove a card in Apple Wallet and how to add one again. Related: How to Find Hidden Apps on iPhone 8. Troubleshoot Your Device Many of the same troubleshooting steps for your iPhone remain the same no matter what the issue is. Try the following to see if any of these gets your Apple Pay back on track: * Close and reopen the app. * Restart your device. * Check for software updates. * Log out of your Apple ID and back in again. 9. Check your Apple Pay Settings If none of these work, you might want to go into your Apple Pay settings just to make sure everything is set up. Learn how to set up Apple Pay correctly, so that everything works smoothly. 10. Call Your Bank If you've gone through this whole list and have had absolutely no luck, it might be time to call your bank. Your card itself might be the problem, so it's best to go straight to the source to sort it out. Remember, with any issue with any device, you can always contact Apple Support. How to Close Apps on Apple Watch in watchOS 8

Just like on other Apple devices, apps on the Apple Watch don't turn off when you close them. It is possible to force-quit apps, but this should only be done if there is an issue. I will teach you how to close apps on your Apple Watch the right way, but I'll also cover force-quitting when necessary. What's in This Article: * How to Close Apps on Apple Watch * How to Force-Quit Apps on Apple Watch How to Close Apps on Apple Watch Closing apps can be useful if you are trying to save battery on your Apple Watch. It can also help you navigate faster, especially if you use button shortcuts to switch between apps quickly. To close apps in watchOS 8: * Press the Side button on your Apple Watch. This opens your Dock, which shows a list of recently-opened apps.   * Swipe left on the app you want to close.   * Tap the red ‘x’ to close the app. This will close your app. You can reopen it from the Home screen of your Apple Watch. If you experience issues with the app after reopening or can't close it using the above method, you can try force-quitting it. How to Force-Quit Apps on Apple Watch Force-quitting an app on your Apple Watch will close it and potentially troubleshoot any issues that you may be experiencing. * Open the app that isn’t working as it should be.   * Hold in the Side button.   * Hold the Side button in until the screen below appears.   * Then, press and hold the Digital Crown until your Apple Watch returns to the Home screen or watch face. How to Fast Charge Apple Watch Series 7

Can you fast charge an Apple Watch? Yes! But only if you have the Apple Watch Series 7 and the USB-C quick charge cable. The Series 7 is a powerful device with many exciting features, including the ability to rapid charge. The faster charging allows the Apple Watch to charge up to 80 percent in just 45 minutes. This means that you can get enough juice to track your sleep in just eight minutes! Here’s how to do it. What's in This Article: * Apple Watch Rapid Charge Requirements * How to Charge Apple Watch Fast * Why Is My Apple Watch Charging Slowly? Apple Watch Rapid Charge Requirements Please note that older Apple Watch models such as the Apple Watch Series 6 and earlier are not capable of rapid charging. If you have an older watch, check out these tips on how to save Apple Watch battery. * Apple Watch Series 7 * Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable (included with Apple Watch Series 7 purchase) * USB-PD-enabled power adapter* (not included with Apple Watch Series 7 purchase) Pro Tip: People often ask, do all Apple Watches have the same charger? The answer is no, the new watch comes with a new charger! The new USB-C cable will work with older Apple Watch models and will allow you to charge the watch via your Mac. However, it will not charge older models as quickly as the Series 7. The new Series 7 can charge on an older Apple Watch charger but it won’t be able to rapid charge. *If you don’t have a USB-PD-enabled power adapter, you can also use one of Apple’s USB-C power adapters or any third-party USB-C PD power adapters that has an output of 5W or more. How to Charge Apple Watch Fast Once you have your fast charger and cable, you are ready to fast charge your Apple Watch Series 7!  * Plug a USB-PD-enabled power adapter into an outlet. * Attach Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable to the power adapter. * Place your Apple Watch Series 7 on the charger. Make sure to charge your watch somewhere where it won’t get unplugged or fall on the ground. The charger magnet is strong and if someone trips on the chord, the Apple Watch might not get unplugged. A dropped Apple Watch could suffer internal damage and a scratched or cracked screen. Screen repairs are not covered by Apple Care and can cost hundreds of dollars to repair. Why is My Apple Watch Charging Slowly? If you followed the steps above and have the correct Apple Watch, charger, and cable, your watch should charge quickly. It should charge quickly even if you plug the Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable directly into your iPad's or Mac’s Thunderbolt or USB-C port as long as they are plugged into an Apple-issued or high wattage third-party power adapter. Double check your power adapter and cord for any visible damage, and try using a different outlet. If you keep experiencing issues, contact Apple Support directly, as there may be an issue with your Apple Watch Series 7. Kindle vs. iPad: Which Device Is Right for You?

Are you stuck wondering whether you should get a Kindle or iPad for reading? The e-reader vs. tablet debates have been raging for years and everyone has an opinion. In this article, we'll go over the pros and cons of Kindle and iPad to help you find the e-reading device that's right for you. Related: How to Buy Kindle Books on iPhone & iPad Jump To: * iPad for Reading * Benefits of Kindle Over iPad The iPad for E-Reading Pros The chief pro of springing for an iPad over a Kindle is that you're not just getting an e-reader: You're getting a fully functional tablet that can run more apps than you can possibly think of. You can even add multiple different e-reading apps, including the Kindle app. One thing I particularly appreciate about reading on my iPad is that I can use apps like Hoopla to borrow library books, so I don't feel the pressure to pick out the exact right book every time that's inherent when you're spending real money on a book. iPads, no matter the generation or model, are also full-color, which means you can get the full experience of graphic novels and picture books. A niche benefit of choosing the iPad for e-reading is that while the Kindle lets you change font size in books, in documents like PDFs, changing the font size will have no effect. On the iPad, you can zoom in to read smaller print you can't make bigger by changing the font size. To learn more about what iPads can do, sign up for our Tip of the Day newsletter. Cons The biggest obstacle to committing to an iPad has to be price. If you buy a new iPad directly from Apple, the least you're going to pay is still over $300. That's more than even the top-of-the-line Kindle will run you. Of course, there's a reason for the price tag: you get a lot more functionality with an iPad. But if you want a device specifically or even primarily for e-reading, it can be hard to justify the price tag. In fact, if you want a device just for reading e-books, the price isn't the only drawback of an iPad. Many of us read in part to escape the stresses and distractions of our daily lives, and reading on an iPad can make that challenging. Features like Focus mode can keep intrusive notifications at bay, but when all your texts and games and all the wonders of the internet are only a tap away, it can be hard to focus all your attention on reading. Who Is the iPad Right For? If price is no obstacle and you're looking for a device that can do e-reading and more, the iPad will serve your needs much better than the Kindle. The iPad is a multi-functional device with a full-color display and will provide you with a ton of utility.  The Kindle for E-Reading Kindle Paperwhite image from Amazon.com Pros The chief benefits of Kindle over iPad have to do with the Kindle being built specifically for reading e-books. If all you want to do is some digital reading, this is the device for you. You can tote your whole library around in a device that fits easily in most bags. The iPad simply cannot beat the Kindle on price. Even the largest and most pricey version, the Kindle Oasis, is easier on the wallet than any new iPad from Apple. The Kindle also has some potential health benefits over the iPad. The Kindle is designed to be easy on the eyes for long periods of sustained screen-gazing. The Kindle Paperwhite uses e-ink, which makes your e-reading experience more closely resemble reading from printed paper. Another advantage of using a Kindle versus an iPad is enjoying longer battery life. My Kindle-adherent colleagues particularly like their Kindles for travel, as you can save precious battery life on your phone or tablet and depend on your Kindle to stay charged throughout long flights. Cons You won't run into any distractions when reading with your Kindle, but because it is built specifically for e-reading, you'll be getting a new device to maintain and keep track of for only one specific activity. If you're anything like me, who already has trouble keeping track of all the devices I already own, adding a single-purpose device to the roster may be more trouble than it's worth. iPad screens are in full color, but Kindles screens are black and white only. While we've gone over how this can be a benefit if you're concerned about how much time you're spending staring at a screen, it's a drawback if you enjoy consuming media where color really matters, like the aforementioned graphic novels or picture books. The most affordable Kindle options are ad-supported, which means that your Lock screen will display sponsored advertisements on it. You can play audiobooks on Kindle, but you need an external Bluetooth speaker or headphones to do so. Who Is the Kindle Right For? The Kindle may be the device for you if you're looking for a more affordable, dedicated e-reader or if you're someone who gets distracted by shiny apps and notifications when you're trying to read. It is also the superior device for those who worry about the strain on their eyes caused by staring at screens for too long. Why is Portrait Mode Zoomed In On iPhone 13 Pro & Pro Max?

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have some of the best smartphone cameras on the market. Despite the impressive features, many users are experiencing problems with their new iPhone cameras. One common issue is that photos taken in Portrait mode are too zoomed in. This is easy to fix! What's in This Article: * How to Zoom Out of iPhone 13 Pro Portrait Mode * iPhone 13 Pro Portrait Mode Cameras Explained How to Zoom Out of iPhone 13 Pro Portrait Mode If you open your camera and Portrait mode shows 3x zoom, you might think that your iPhone is stuck on zoom. You cannot pinch your fingers while in Portrait mode to zoom in and out. Instead: * Open Camera.   * Select Portrait.   * In the corner near the shutter, tap 3x.   * Now you will be shooting at 1x zoom. It's possible that with upcoming iOS updates, the Camera app will be updated and the Portrait mode settings will return to default like they do in Photo and Video modes. Luckily, it is easy to switch back and forth between 1x and 3x zoom. Pro Tip: Curious what 3x zoom means? It doesn't necessarily mean that the image is magnified three times as many may think. 3x zoom means that the longest focal length is three times the shortest. Here's what the difference between 1x zoom and 3x zoom looks like on an iPhone 13 Pro Max in Portrait Mode: iPhone 13 Pro Portrait Mode Cameras Explained When you take a photo on your iPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max, you can change the zoom, exposure, set a timer, and make other changes every time you take a photo. Once you exit the app, most camera modes return to their default settings, including 1x zoom. Portrait mode, on the other hand, returns to the last used zoom setting. This means that if you use 3x zoom then close the Camera app, it will still be extremely zoomed-in when you open it again. The only two zoom options for Portrait mode on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are 1x and 3x. This is because the iPhone 13 has three lenses; each lens only offers one optical zoom level. These are 0.5x, 1x, and 3x zoom, and 0.5x cannot be used to take portrait photos because Portrait mode focuses on the subject, generally a person, and blurs the background with a simulated Bokeh blur.  Most iPhones don't offer any zoom options for Portrait mode because they only have one lens that can take quality portrait photos. The iPhone 12 Pro has 1x and 2x zoom options, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max has 1x and 2.5 zoom options. If you upgraded from one of these phones, it is understandable that a jump between 1x and 3x zoom seems excessive, but it works great once you get accustomed to it. When you take photos in Photo mode on iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, you can pinch your fingers to zoom anywhere from 0.5x to 15x. However, your image quality is lower because it is no longer optical zoom when you aren't shooting using the pre-set 0.5x, 1x, or 3x options. Even 1.1x or 2.5x zoom on iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will use digital zoom. While digital camera magnification is an excellent tool, it lowers megapixels to enlarge the area of an image. It still looks good when done right, but pictures taken using optical zoom look significantly better.  It can be frustrating to get used to all the new features on your iPhone 13, especially since Apple is misleading about the iPhone camera zoom and doesn't use precise mm measurements despite comparing the iPhone 13 Pro Max camera to a DSLR. But don't be too quick to give up and go back to your old iPhone. This new phone has a fantastic camera if you know how to use it. iPhone 13 Photos Blurry? Here’s the Quick Fix

The iPhone 13 made a splash with the promise of exciting new camera capabilities. But many users have experienced issues that made them consider returning the new phones. Before you decide to throw in the towel, let me walk you through two easy ways to improve photo quality instantly on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Max Pro. What’s in This Article * iPhone 13 Pro Macro Mode Photography Issues * How to Turn Off Automatic Macro Mode * How to Turn Off Lens Correction * Apple iPhone Camera Lenses Explained iPhone 13 Pro Macro Mode Photography Issues The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have a fantastic new macro mode feature. Macro photography is close-up photography of small things such as plants or insects. To take these, your iPhone will automatically shift from the primary wide lens to the ultra-wide lens, which brings the subject closer and changes the focus. If the camera detects something within 5.5 inches of the lens, this will happen automatically.  The automatic mode change can happen if something passes near the lens or in low light. Sometimes this happens even if there isn't anything close to the lens, and it can be frustrating. It can even cause you to miss a moment you are trying to capture because you need to take the time to refocus your camera. The two things that help are to turn off auto macro mode and lens correction. Related: 15 Photography Tips to Help You Master Your iPhone's Camera Return to top How to Turn Off Automatic Macro Mode Some iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max users have noticed their iPhone camera zooming in too much, suddenly and unexpectedly. This may be due to the new auto macro mode feature rather than a camera malfunction or software glitch. To turn it off: * Open Settings.   * Tap on Camera.   * Toggle off Auto Macro.   * With Auto Macro toggled off, you’ll have to tap on 0.5 near the shutter to make sure that the ultra-wide lens is being used to capture the photo in order to use macro mode manually. Return to top How to Turn Off Lens Correction Lens correction is another setting that can improve your photography, but it may also cause problems. To turn it off: * Open Camera in Settings.   * Toggle off Lens Correction.   * When this is off, you may want to tap on the subject when taking photos and videos before you start taking photos or recording the video. This will help your iPhone use the correct lens to get the best results. Return to top Apple iPhone Camera Lenses Explained These troubleshooting tips may help fix the problem, but understanding how the iPhone lenses and zoom work can also be useful.  The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini both have a dual-lens system, which has been the norm since iPhone 7 came out in 2016. One lens is wide, while the other is ultra-wide. These phones are capable of up to 5x digital zoom.  The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have three lenses. Two are the regular wide and ultra-wide, while the third is a telephoto lens. These phones are capable of 15x digital zoom but also 3x optical zoom. What is a telephoto camera smartphone lens? In simple terms, a telephoto lens has a higher focal length so that you can zoom in without compromising the quality of the photo. 3x zoom means that the longest focal length is three times the shortest. So a 3x zoom means that the lens has the power to enlarge an image ten times between normal focal length and telephoto length. Here's what the difference between 1x zoom and 3x zoom looks like on an iPhone 13 Pro Max: The difference between optical and digital zoom is also essential to note. Digital zoom uses magnification technology to enlarge the area of the image by cutting down on the megapixels, which lowers the quality of the image. This means that zoom on iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini cameras is equivalent to cropping an image to magnify the subject.  Optical zoom magnifies by leveraging the physical change in a lens to adjust the distance between the camera sensor and the subject resulting in high-quality magnification. If you use the 0.5x, 1x, or 3x zoom options on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, the image quality isn't compromised, making the camera significantly more powerful. Return to top It can take a while to get used to a new phone and all the features, including the camera options. It can be frustrating to learn how to master the new iPhone 13 camera features, but it is worth it!
