iPadOS Beta: How to Install It & What to Expect

If you're an early adopter who'd like to get early access to Apple's new iPad operating system and give feedback on how it's working, you can install the public beta version of iPadOS 15 in July. In this guide, we'll be covering how to sign up for the public beta program. The developer beta is likely to be more unstable and have more bugs, and I would not recommend installing it on your primary device. Though the public iPadOS 15 beta is likely to be a more stable choice, part of the deal you make when you install it entails giving feedback to Apple, including on bugs and broken features. Before you install the public iPad beta, consider whether you're willing to deal with more bugs in your daily iPad use. The Apple Beta Program signup process is fairly straightforward. To update your iPad to Apple's latest operating system, make sure to back up your device to iCloud or back up to your computer. If you haven't updated your Mac to Big Sur yet, you can back up to iTunes. After you've made your backup: * Plug your device into power and make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi or a stable, wired internet connection. * Visit the Apple Beta Program page and tap sign up, or sign in if you've previously participated with an earlier beta version of iPadOS.   * You’ll be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID and password.   * You'll be taken to a Guide for Public Betas. If you haven't downloaded a public beta before, scroll down, tap enroll your iPad, and follow the prompts.   * Follow the link provided or tap Download profile to download the configuration profile, then tap Allow.   * Open the Settings app.   * Tap More for Your iPad.   * Tap View Profile.   * Tap Install and enter your device passcode.   * Tap Install again.   * Open the Settings app and tap General, then Software Update.   * Tap Download and Install. * Now you'll see a notification like the one in the image below, with a blue line indicating download progress. * Once the new operating system is finished downloading, tap Install Now. * A window comes up that informs you you'll need to restart your device; tap Restart. * Your iPad will go to a black screen with the Apple logo and a progress bar; the device will reset once the update completes.  * You'll notice a new app called Feedback; this is where you can report bugs and glitches to Apple. Accept the terms, sign in with your Apple ID, and you're good to go!
