How to Close Apps On Apple TV
There are a couple of ways to exit or close apps on Apple TV. You can close apps that aren't responding or keep your Apple TV running smoothly by regularly closing open apps. You can also force a restart of your Apple TV if it is not responding at all. Let's learn how.

How to Close an App on Apple TV
To close an open app on your Apple TV that is functioning normally, all you need to do is press the Back button on your Apple TV Siri Remote. This will return you to your Home screen.
This will not completely close the app but will leave it running in the background. If you want to close an app on Apple TV completely, go to the next section, or, to learn more about your Apple TV, consider signing up for our Tip of the Day newsletter.
How to Force Close an Apple TV App Using the App Switcher
To truly close an app, not just exit it, or to quit an app that's not responding as expected, you can open the App Switcher and close the app there. Here's how:
* Double-click on the TV/Home button.
* Use your Clickpad to scroll through all open apps until you find the app you want to close.
* Swipe up across the Clickpad to close the selected app.
* Click the Back button until you return to the Home screen.
How to Restart Your Apple TV
If you cannot get the App Switcher to open or the app will not close, you may need to restart your Apple TV. Try pushing the Power button on your Siri Remote, then pushing it again to turn your Apple TV back on. You can also restart your Apple TV from the Settings app:
* Open the Settings app.
* Select System.
* Click Restart. Make sure NOT to click Reset: doing so will clear all your apps and data.
If your Apple TV is completely frozen and you cannot get it to restart, simply unplug your TV, wait for a few moments, and then plug it back in to restart it. This may fix any issues you were having with uncooperative apps. What Mac Do I Have? How to Identify Apple's Different iMac Models & Generations
Whether you're checking for software compatibility or trading in your old iMac, you need to know how to find your specific device information. In this article, we'll cover the easiest methods to identify your iMac (even if it is not working or you don't have it with you). To make the process easier, we've also included a list of all iMac versions.

How to Find iMac Model Number & Serial Number
Let's start by quickly covering the two main identifiers for your iMac: the model name (also called the model number) and serial number. The serial number is unique to your device and is useful if you need to track down spare parts or check warranty coverage. But for the most part, all you'll need is your iMac model name. With the model name, you can check for compatibility with the latest software updates, find the correct iMac accessories, or get an estimate if you are selling or trading in your computer.
Below, we'll cover some simple methods to help you find your iMac model information and serial number. Don't worry if your computer isn't working, as several of these methods do not require a functioning iMac. If you're interested in learning more about your iMac, you can also check out our free Tip of the Day.
Find iMac Model Number Using About This Mac
Curious about how to find Mac serial number and model? If your iMac is working, this is the easiest method to quickly get your model and serial number:
* Click the Apple Menu and select About this Mac.
* You'll see your iMac model name at the top and the serial number below.
Check the Back of Your iMac or Original Packaging
iMac not working? If you're looking for a way to find your Mac by serial number, you can grab the serial number printed on the underside of your Mac or on the original packaging next to the barcode label. Because the serial number also contains the model information, you can track down your device's model once you have this handy number. Simply click the link to this Apple serial number lookup page and enter your serial number to see your iMac model. Be warned: the font on the back of your Mac is very small, so if you prefer not to strain your eyes, I recommend following the steps in the section below.
Sign In with Apple ID to View Devices
If your iMac isn't working or you don't have it nearby, you can also look up your iMac information with your Apple ID. For this method, you'll need to know the Apple ID you use for your iMac. Then, follow the steps below to find your iMac model name and serial number:
* Go to appleid.apple.com.
* Sign in with your Apple ID.
* Under the Devices section, click your iMac name.
* Now you'll see your iMac model and serial number.
List of All iMac Generations
The list below shows all iMac generations and models. While rarely needed, we've also listed the iMac model identifiers. Here's the tricky thing: model identifiers and model numbers (Axxxx) only identify specific characteristics of a model, so they can be used for more than one generation. This is important to be aware of if you're trying to track down your iMac model using one of these numbers. For this reason, your model and serial numbers are the two main identifiers used for Mac. If your model identifier is listed for more than one iMac below, you'll need to backtrack and use one of the methods above to properly identify your iMac.

List of iMac Models & Their Features
Below, we've listed models from 2017 and later and discuss some of their key differences and external identifying characteristics. However, if you're looking for more detailed specs or specific information about older iMac models, I recommend checking out Apple's complete list of iMac models.
iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021)
Model Identifier: iMac21,1; iMac21,2
Colors: Silver, pink, blue, green, purple, orange, yellow
Chip: Apple M1
You'll notice there are two model identifiers listed for this model. This is because there are slightly different configurations available for this model. The difference is that the iMac21,1 has two USB ports, while the iMac21,2 has four. The 2021 models are also currently the only generation running Apple's M1 chip instead of an Intel chip (listed in About This Mac), so these are the fastest and most powerful of the iMac family. The iMac 2021 models are the only ones available in the colors listed above, so if you have one of these fun hues you can identify your iMac model from the color alone!
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
Model Identifier: iMac20,1; iMac20,2
Color: Silver
Chip: Up to Intel Core i9
This is the last iMac model to run the Intel Core processors. While externally it is very similar to previous models, a key identifying characteristic is the number of USB ports. This model has four USB-A ports and two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.
iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019)
Model Identifier: iMac19,2
Color: Silver
Chip: Up to Intel Core i9
Slightly smaller than the 27-inch model also released in 2019, a key identifying characteristic are the available USB ports: this model has four USB 3 ports (compatible with USB 2) and two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)
Model Identifier: iMac19,1
Color: Silver
Chip: Up to Intel Core i9
You can also check the USB ports as a way to identify this iMac, as this model comes with four USB-A ports and two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. It is also larger than the other iMac model released in 2019 (which had only a 21.5 inch screen).
iMac Pro
Model Identifier: iMacPro1,1
Color: Space Gray
Chip: Intel Zeon W Processor
Ah, 2017. The year Apple went wild with the darker Space Gray tone. This is the only iMac available in this dark gray color, and can be identified just from that. The iMac Pro is also the oldest iMac model still available for sale on the Apple store.
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
Model Identifier: iMac18,3
Color: Silver
Chip: Up to Intel Core i7
Unlike the Space Gray iMac Pro which was also released in 2017, this model was only made available in silver. This model also has a Retina 5K display (making text and images slightly clearer on the screen), while the iMac 2017 model below has only a Retina 4K display. Unfortunately, you cannot use ports to identify this model, as both of the 2017 Retina models have four USB 3 ports and two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.
iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017)
Model Identifier: iMac18,2
Color: Silver
Chip: Up to Intel Core i7
Only available in silver, this model has a Retina 4K display instead of the Retina 5K display offered by the 2017 model listed above (making text slightly clearer on the screen). Unfortunately, you cannot use ports to identify this model, as both of the 2017 Retina models have four USB 3 ports and two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.
iMac (21.5-inch, 2017)
Model Identifier: iMac18,1
Color: Silver
Chip: Up to Intel Core i5
With four USB-A ports and two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, you can identify this iMac model from the USB ports. While it lacks the crisper Retina 4K and 5K displays offered by the later 2017 models, externally it appears very similar.

List of All Mac Mini Generations
The list below shows all Mac mini models. While rarely needed, we've also listed the Mac mini model numbers (also called family numbers) and model identifiers. Model numbers are listed on the bottom of your Mac mini along with the serial number, but there's a reason this method isn't listed as a way to identify your Mac mini in the methods above.
While your Mac mini model number initially seems like a good way to identify your model, the table shows why you need to be careful if you're trying to find this information with a model number or model identifier. Here's the tricky thing: because model numbers and model identifiers only identify specific characteristics of a model, they can be used for more than one generation. For example, you'll notice that Apple Mac mini A1347 applies to four generations of Mac minis, from 2010 to 2014. In contrast, Mac mini A1993 is unique, and you can use this number to identify the correct 2018 Mac mini model. So if your model number or model identifier is listed for more than one Mac mini, you'll need to backtrack and use one of the methods above to identify your Mac mini model.

List of Recent Mac Mini Models & Their Features
Mac mini models from 2014 or later are compatible with the latest software, macOS Monterey. We've listed these models below and discussed some of their key differences and characteristics. However, if you're looking for more detailed specs or specific information about Mac mini older models, I recommend checking out Apple's complete Mac mini list.
Mac mini (M1, 2020)
Model Identifier: Macmini9,1
Color: Silver
Chip: Apple M1
The standout identifying characteristic of this model is that it is currently the only Mac mini to have Apple's new M1 chip, making this model the fastest and most powerful of Apple's Mac minis. All other Mac minis have an Intel processor, so if you see Apple M1 printed on your device packaging or in About this Mac, you know you have the 2020 model. Another way to tell is by checking your USB ports, because this model is the only one to have two Thunderbolt (USB 4 ports) and two USB-A ports (shown above).
Mac mini (2018)
Model Identifier: Macmini8,1
Color: Space Gray
Chip: Intel, Core i7 Processor
If you have a 2018 Mac mini, you can easily identify this model just from the dark gray color, as it is the only model available in Space Gray. You can also identify this Mac mini version by its USB ports, as it is the only model to have four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C ports) and two USB-A ports (shown in the image above).
Mac mini (Late 2014)
Model Identifier: Macmini7,1
Color: Silver
Chip: Intel, Core i7 Processor
This Mac mini is the oldest version that still available on the Apple store and the oldest version that is compatible with the latest software updates. This Mac mini model is the only version to have four USB-A ports, so if the ports of your model look like the setup above, you have the 2014 model.

Get, Turn Off & Customize Left Behind Alerts for Your AirTag
Do you get Find My alerts when you leave the item attached to your AirTag at home? The alerts can be very helpful if you were about to leave without your keys, but less so when your AirTag is attached to a remote control or bag you don't always bring with you. Here's how to turn the Left Behind toggle off and on in iOS 15 and how to customize when it will send you alerts.

You can turn the Left Behind toggle on or off in the Find My app. When you turn the Left Behind toggle on, you'll get alerts whenever you leave your AirTag behind. If you turn the toggle off, you won't get alerts when your iPhone and AirTag are separated. To learn more about how to use your AirTag and other Apple devices, sign up for our Tip of the Day newsletter.
Before you begin, make sure you have updated to iOS 15.
* Open the Find My app.
* Tap the Items tab.
* Select your AirTag.
* Swipe up on the AirTag card.

* Toggle Notify When Left Behind on or off, as desired.
* Tap Done.
Customize When You Want to Get Alerts
If you want to be alerted when you leave your AirTag at home, but you keep getting alerts just went you walk out into your front yard, you can change the geofence—a virtual perimeter around a physical location—to be larger. On the other hand, if you are forever getting in your car and driving halfway down the block before you get a notification that you left your AirTag at home, you can make the geofence smaller. Here's how:
* Go back to the Notify When Left Behind screen.
* You can't change the geofence on an existing location, unfortunately, so tap New Location.
* Enter the address you'd like to set a geofence for or use your current location.
* Select Small, Medium, or Large for the size of your AirTag geofence.
* Tap Done and confirm whether you don't want to be notified at this address for just your AirTag or for all items and devices.

7 Best iPad Widgets for Your Home Screen (iPadOS 15)
iPhone widgets are cool, but iPad widgets are even better. Why? The iPad's larger display means you can add more detailed widgets that show inspiration, updates, and needed information from your apps without ever leaving your Home screen. We've tested the most popular options and created this roundup of some of the most fun and useful widgets for your iPad Home screen.
Related: How to Hide Apps on iPhone
Before we dive into our top widget recommendations, there's a few things we need to cover. This article is written for those who have updated to the iPadOS 15 software, which allows you to add widgets directly on your Home screen. If you have an earlier version of iPad software, you will be able to add smaller widgets to your Today View, but not directly to your Home screen.
Rather than focusing on native Apple apps, we've also opted to focus mainly on third-party apps and widgets to help take your Home screen inspiration in new directions. If you're interested in learning more about how to get the most out of your iPad, I recommend checking out our free Tip of the Day.
1. Kitchen Stories
This well-designed cooking app has one of the best home screen widgets I've come across. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or just looking to spice up your cooking, this widget will take your chef-ly aspirations to a new level with simple, savory, and healthy meal ideas. This large widget option is ideal for your iPad screen, and displays a daily recipe recommendation with estimated cook time, difficulty level, and the ingredient list. What I love about this food widget is that it displays the ingredient list right on the Home screen, so before I even open the app I know if this daily recommendation is a recipe I'm interested in.
2. Flipboard - Latest Stories
Flipboard is a popular news app that set itself apart from the pack by helping you to scan the latest news in a readable format. While the Apple News app is also a great option, a few things make the Flipboard widget preferable. For one thing, the Flipboard app is incredible easy to customize to your interests, and this in turn means the widget will only display topics you are interested in. Want to avoid political news on your Home screen and instead focus on food and travel? You can customize this in the Flipboard app with just a few taps on your screen. You'll really prefer the Flipboard widget if you're a news junkie, as it more frequently updates the headlines displayed than the Apple News widget.
3. Streaks
You don't even have to love to-do lists to appreciate this fun and functional widget. Streaks acts as a visual habit tracker, making for a fun addition to your Home screen reminding you to walk your dog, exercise, or drink that daily green smoothie. If you have tasks that need to be completed daily or a few times a week, and you don't want to receive pushy notifications reminding you about them, the Streaks widget is an easy way to add a visual reminder on your Home screen. As you use the widget over time, it will also display your running "streak"—how long you've been meeting the daily or weekly goal without missing it. The large widget will display up to four tasks, and offers different color schemes and over 600 task symbols, so you can create a fun to-do list that will inspire you on your worst days.
4. Daily Budget Original
The Daily Budget Original widget proves that you don't have to take up a lot of space to add a lot of value. While lesser know than other budgeting apps, Daily Budget Original is one of the few budget apps that offers a Home screen widget. The widget itself can display daily spending or track daily savings and display whether you're on track to meet your financial goals. If you're like me, and cringing a little at the thought of seeing your savings on your Home screen, this widget might be just the things to get your spending back on target. What makes this widget valuable is that it not only displays daily spending/savings, but also shows your progress towards set financial goals.
5. Deliveries
If you do very little online shopping, this widget might not be useful for you. But if you tend to frequently order packages online, I highly recommend the Deliveries app and widget. Once set up on your Home screen, the widget will display your current order status, location, and estimated date and time of delivery. This is especially useful if you live on a busy street or in an area that often has inclement weather. With the ability to closely track your packages, you can be on-hand for expensive or fragile packages or those that require a signature for delivery.
6. Day One Journal
The Day One Journal has long reigned supreme in the world of digital journaling apps, and continues to be one of the most popular on the market. Unsurprisingly, the Day One Journal widget has also received high praise for its simple customization settings and the variety of home screen displays offered. For example, you can add a widget displaying your journaling streak and app usage, suggested writing prompts, or featured selections of your previous entries (complete with photos) for a fun trip down memory lane. If you're looking to create a more motivational Home screen, adding this widget will likely take your journaling experience to the next level.
7. Shortcuts
Admittedly, I've saved the best for last. After all, who doesn't want a Home screen widget that helps them to more efficiently complete common tasks? While most of the widgets discussed in this article are third-party apps, Shortcuts is a native Apple app. If you have an iPad, this simple and colorful app is likely already installed. The function of the Shortcuts app is in the name—it allows you to set up handy shortcuts for tasks such as settings you often adjust or information you often need to reference. Once you set up the large widget on your Home screen, you can implement these shortcuts with a single tap.
If you add one (or more) of these widgets to your iPad Home screen, we'd love to hear about your experience! ReviewsiPadAppsApple AppsThird-Party AppsHome ScreenWidgetsDevice ManagementMaster your iPhone in one minute a day: Sign up here to get our FREE Tip of the Day delivered right to your inbox.

Let's start by quickly covering the two main identifiers for your Mac: the model name (also called the model number) and serial number. The serial number is unique to your device and is useful if you need to track down spare parts or check warranty coverage. But for the most part, all you'll need is the MacBook model name. With the model name, you can check for compatibility with the latest software updates, find the correct MacBook accessories, or get an estimate if you are selling or trading in your computer.
Below, we'll cover some simple methods to help you find your MacBook model information and serial number. Don't worry if your computer isn't working, as several of these methods do not require a functioning MacBook. If you're interested in learning more about your MacBook, you can also check out our free Tip of the Day.
Find MacBook Model Number Using About This Mac
Unsure of your MacBook model or serial number? If your MacBook is working, this is the easiest method to quickly get your MacBook model and serial number:
* Click the Apple Menu and select About this Mac.
* You'll see your MacBook model name at the top and the serial number below.
Check the Back of Your MacBook or Original Packaging
MacBook not working? You can also find the serial number printed on the underside of your Mac or on the original packaging next to the barcode label. Because the serial number also contains the model information, you can track down your device's model once you have this handy number. Simply click the link to this Apple page and enter your serial number to look up your MacBook model number. Be warned: the font on the back of your MacBook is absurdly small, so if you prefer not to strain your eyes, I recommend following the steps in the section below.
Sign In with Apple ID to View Devices
If your MacBook isn't working, you can also look up your MacBook information with your Apple ID. For this method, you'll need to know the Apple ID you use for your MacBook. Then, follow the steps below to find your MacBook model name and serial number:
* Go to appleid.apple.com.
* Sign in with your Apple ID.
* Under the Devices section, click your MacBook name.
* Now you'll see your MacBook model and serial number.
What Is the Newest MacBook?
In 2020, Apple released its first MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with the M1 chip. An upgrade from the previous Intel chips, the Apple M1 chip creates faster performance with longer battery life and opens the door to more cross-device app access (so your favorite iPad and iPhone apps are now compatible with your MacBook). In fall 2021, Apple released two new MacBook models (14 and 16-inch) that have even more powerful chip options: the M1 Pro and M1 Max. In addition, the new MacBook Pro models have more ports than the previous 2020 versions.
While they are currently for sale, the model information and serial numbers are still not listed on the Apple website, so below I've listed some key specs to help identify the new MacBook models:

For older Macs, you can visit Apple's website to view a complete list of all MacBook Pro models, MacBook Air models and MacBook models. In the tables below, you'll notice we list a model identifier next to the model name. The model identifier is essentially a shortened version of the model name. While model identifiers are used less frequently, we've listed them below in case you come across a website that uses these in place of the model name.
